HotD S3 MUST Fix This HUGE Mistake!

I’m not asking for much from “House of the Dragon,” but I hope the series will undo a destructive shift that occurred in season 2. Production on season 3 is underway, and it promises to correct course after a controversial second season, which was heavily criticized for its many deviations from the source material.

Overall, I generally concur that there were numerous issues with House of the Dragon season 2, yet I continue to appreciate the series as a whole and eagerly anticipate future seasons. One alteration from George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood text stands out to me as downright unjust, but there’s still time to rectify it in season 3.

Sunfyre Needs To Be Brought Back In House Of The Dragon Season 3

Sunfyre Is One Of The Most Fascinating Dragons In The Dance

In simpler terms, Sunfyre is a lively, stunning golden dragon belonging to King Aegon II Targaryen. Viewers were eagerly looking forward to its debut in season 2 as it wasn’t featured initially. Eventually, King Aegon rode the magnificent creature into the Battle of Rook’s Rest, but unfortunately, Sunfyre was fatally wounded by Meleys and then scorched by Vhagar.

As a dedicated moviegoer, I recall how Aegon was left reeling from the brutal clashes, while Sunfyre’s destiny hung in the balance for much of season 2. It wasn’t until the season finale that Larys Strong announced Sunfyre’s demise, a claim that differed significantly from the books where Sunfyre continued to be instrumental in the Targaryen conflict’s subsequent events. But there’s still hope; perhaps Larys was not entirely truthful about Sunfyre’s fate, and we might yet see the dragon rise again.

As a passionate fan of “House of the Dragon,” I may not be everyone’s favorite, but that doesn’t stop me from appreciating Aegon. After all, we admire dragons for their own qualities here, not those of their riders. Among the series’ dragons, Sunfyre stands out as one of the most awe-inspiring, and its role in the Dance of the Dragons adds an incredible layer of fascination to its story within George R.R. Martin’s universe.

Did House Of The Dragon Season 2’s Ending Really Kill Sunfyre Off Early?

Sunfyre’s Death Was Mentioned But Not Confirmed

Regrettably, our information about Sunfyre’s supposed demise comes from Larys Strong, a character known for his questionable reliability. It’s possible that he might have spread this rumor to Aegon, aiming to provoke the king into leaving the city before Aemond’s arrival. However, in the book, Sunfyre is depicted as still recuperating at Rook’s Rest, and later reappears alongside Aegon.

Discussing the upcoming season 3 of “House of the Dragon,” actor Tom Glynn-Carney revealed insights about Aegon undertaking some introspection. It’s challenging to imagine a path for Aegon’s redemption, but if “House of the Dragon” aims to make Aegon more relatable, focusing on his bond with Sunfyre could be the most effective approach, as it appears that the dragon holds a deep affection for its rider.
