Honor Swinton Byrne, Lily-Beau Leach, Rory Fleck-Byrne Star in ‘Do Mosquitos Bite in Winter?’ (EXCLUSIVE)

In the upcoming short film “Do Mosquitoes Bite in Winter?”, produced by the U.K.’s National Film & Television School, Honor Swinton Byrne (“The Souvenir,” “A Very Royal Scandal”) and Rory Fleck-Byrne (“In Camera,” “This is Going to Hurt”) will take on leading roles.

The story revolves around a family drama, focusing on separation as seen through the perspective of the nine-year-old character Ruby. This production also features emerging actress Lily-Beau Leach, whose acting skills in “Hoard” were noticed by director Anne-Sofie Lindgaard even before the casting process started.

In the creative guidance of Lindgaard, this project explores the delicate nature of a family as seen through a child’s perspective and understanding of the world.

Guided by Lindgaard, the project dives deep into the intricate dynamics of a family, viewed from the unique lens of a child’s perception and interpretation of the world.

Working alongside Simon [Higgins] was vital for the movie; our partnership significantly shaped the intimate dynamics within the film’s core family, enabling me to delve deeply and authentically into the acting of my cast,” Lindgaard expressed.

It was fortunate for us to secure Lily-Beau Leach as our main young character, whose acting in ‘Hoard’ I had admired for a while prior. It felt like an even bigger blessing to sign Honor and Rory, two exceptionally gifted actors I’ve long respected. The script holds personal significance, and they both handled it with great finesse and sensitivity. I can’t wait to see this talented ensemble bring the story to life.

The project, produced by Mauro Mate and Shreya Desai, is currently in post-production.

The Danish filmmaker’s earlier work, titled “Icelandic Poppies,” was nominated for the Robert Award, which is similar to the BAFTAs or Oscars in Denmark, and it also took home the award for best international short at both the Manchester Film Festival and the British Short Film Festival.

Does Mosquito Bite in Winter?” is Lindgaard’s third short film produced during his studies at the prestigious NFTS in London. His previous works, “Superbolt,” featuring Imogen King and premiering at Manchester Film Festival next month, and “Backseat,” currently in post-production and aiming for a later-year premiere, both star Lewin Lloyd (“His Dark Materials”) and Victoria Ekanoye (“Sense & Sensibility,” “Coronation Street”).
