HollyShorts Film Festival to Launch London Edition (EXCLUSIVE)

As a seasoned movie critic with over three decades spent in the dimly lit theaters of London and New York, I must say that the upcoming HollyShorts Film Festival‘s London edition has truly piqued my interest. Having witnessed the evolution of short films from quirky novelties to serious contenders for top awards, I can confidently assert that this festival is a beacon for emerging talent.

HollyShorts Film Festival is set to launch a London edition, EbMaster has learned.

next year marks the 20th anniversary for an internationally acclaimed film festival that’s known as one of the most distinguished short film competitions worldwide. It even offers several categories that qualify for Oscars.

As a movie aficionado, I’m thrilled to share that for the very first time, our beloved HollyShorts Festival has earned recognition from BAFTA! This means that the exceptional films we select are now eligible for submission to the prestigious BAFTA Awards. What an exciting step forward for us and for filmmakers worldwide!

Several HollyShorts Award recipients have subsequently won the highest honors in the Academy Award short film categories, with Guy Nattiv’s “Skin” being one of them.

The U.K. will host the London version of the festival this coming December, specifically from the 6th to the 8th, during the heart of the awards season.

As a cinephile, I’m excited to share that I’ll be immersing myself in this year’s HollyShorts festival happening both in Los Angeles and online from August 8th through the 18th. The event will feature an impressive lineup of 400 films, carefully selected from a pool of 6,000 submissions. Among these are “Good Boy,” starring Ben Whishaw, “My Week with Maisy” featuring Joanna Lumley, Thomas May Bailey’s “The Talent” starring Emma D’Arcy, who you might recognize from “House of the Dragon,” Louisa Connolly-Burnham’s “Sister Wives” starring Mia McKenna-Bruce, and the animated short “An Angel on Oxford Street” narrated by Christopher Eccleston. It’s going to be an unforgettable cinematic journey!

Notable entries also include “Benjamin Verrall’s impactful ‘Shouting at the Sea’, Oz Arshad’s ‘Opening Up’ starring Tamzin Outhwaite and Gary Beadle, Simon Woods’ ‘Such A Lovely Day’ with Eve Best and Edward Bluemel, Emma Miranda Moore’s ‘The Night’, Elizabeth Peace’s ‘The Golden Boy’, the Scottish comedy ‘Da’s’, and ‘Dragon Slayers United’ featuring Adam Pearson and Rosie Jones.”
