Team Cherry, the creators behind Hollow Knight: Silksong, offered a quick clarification about the game’s estimated launch period after the Xbox Games Showcase event that led to some misunderstanding.
Initially conceived as downloadable content for the original game in 2017, titled Hollow Knight, Silksong later expanded into a full-fledged sequel due to its growing scope.
Without a doubt, Silksong is one of the highly anticipated video games for 2025. During Microsoft’s unveiling of the Xbox Ally handheld, this game was given significant attention, leading many to believe that it would launch simultaneously with the Ally on its release day.
As clarified by Team Cherry, however, this is not the case.
Team Cherry response
Matthew Griffin from Team Cherry clarified on a Discord post later reposted in the Silksong subreddit that they were not bound to releasing the game on consoles prior to any holidays.

Since there isn’t a specific release date for Silksong during the holiday season, its arrival is still uncertain. However, we’ve learned since May that the game will be playable at Australia’s National Museum of Screen Culture on September 18, 2025, as part of a Game Worlds exhibit, giving us a glimpse of it beforehand.
Additionally, there’s not much more information available. For quite a while now, fans have speculated that Silksong might be secretly released, often referred to as “shadowdropping.” However, so far, these predictions haven’t proven accurate.
As the Summer Game Fest concludes for this year, there are two possible paths for an unexpected launch: either at Gamescom 2025 in August, or during a forthcoming event hosted by one of the major gaming platform providers.
After Microsoft and Sony concluded their major summer events, it’s now Nintendo’s turn. However, since they haven’t scheduled any Direct presentation yet, it seems they are busy preparing for the release of Switch 2. Therefore, fans of Silksong will have to keep up their remarkable patience a bit longer.
