The mod has been in development since 2016.
In The Great War, players can begin their game in 1910. To support this earlier start date, the developers have added a lot of new content, including units, technologies, characters, national flags, sound effects, and historical events. The game also features a new map and several improvements to how it plays. Even though it’s currently version 0.25, it’s fully playable and offers many hours of engaging gameplay.
This update to the mod is especially appreciated because its creators are simultaneously developing their own large-scale strategy game, Fields of History: The Great War. They recently announced a partnership with MicroProse, who will publish and fund the game’s development. It’s great that they’re continuing to support the mod even while working on their commercial project.
