Hocus Pocus 3: Must-See Moments That Will Cast a Spell on Fans!

The long-awaited question about a possible third film titled “Hocus Pocus” has been addressed. Actress Bette Midler is currently discussing the prospect of a new installment in this cherished series. In a recent interview on “The Jess Cagle Show,” Midler hinted that creatives were considering “Hocus Pocus 3,” using terms like “very cautiously” and “delicately.” By June 2023, Disney’s film president, Sean Bailey, announced that the project is indeed in development, as reported by People.

Approximately thirty years following the original 1990s Disney live-action film “Hocus Pocus,” beloved for its nostalgic charm, “Hocus Pocus 2” brought back the troublemaking Sanderson sisters. This time, it was not witches from centuries past but three contemporary teenagers – Cassie, Izzy, and Becca – who inadvertently reawakened them by lighting the black flame candle. The film resonated strongly with both longtime fans and newcomers, and with “Hocus Pocus 3” on the horizon, I can’t wait to see how things unfold in this upcoming sequel.

6. Bring Back Max, Dani, And Allison

As Adults, They Could Help The New Protagonists

One aspect of Hocus Pocus 2 that caught my attention is the absence of some main characters from the original film – Max (Omri Katz), his sister Dani (Thora Birch), and Max’s friend and love interest, Allison (Vinessa Shaw). Although it’s likely that many of these actors have moved on to other projects, I can’t help but wish they could reappear somehow in Hocus Pocus 3. Interestingly enough, both Shaw and Birch are still active in acting, while Katz has decided to step away from the spotlight. However, it might be intriguing if he were open to making a special appearance.

In a new installment of Hocus Pocus 3, there are numerous opportunities to bring back the original characters. Some actors have even expressed interest in reprising their roles. Given that these characters would now be adults, they could potentially have children who bond with Izzy, Becca, and Cassie. Alternatively, they could come back to assist the trio in defeating the Sanderson sisters once more since they’ve already done so previously. At a minimum, if Hocus Pocus 3 finds a way to involve just one character from the first film, it would still make me content.

5. A Witchy Musical Number

The Songs From The First Two Movies Were So Good That We Want More

One of the favorite sequences from the initial “Hocus Pocus” movie is when the Sanderson sisters sang “I Put A Spell On You” during Salem’s town hall Halloween party. This well-known song from 1956, first written and sung by Screamin’ Jay Hawkins, gained even more popularity through Winifred’s enchanting interpretation. Given that Bette Midler is part of the cast, it’s only natural that she would display her remarkable talent!

2022 saw the release of “Hocus Pocus 2,” where Bette Midler’s captivating act from the original film was complemented by the Blondie song, “One Way or Another.” In this sequel, the Sanderson sisters conjured a spell at the Salem Halloween Carnival, aiming to enlist the crowd’s aid in tracking down Mayor Traske, a descendant of Winifred’s adversary, Reverend Traske. The grand choreographed musical number was almost as impressive as their performance in the first film, implying that if there is a “Hocus Pocus 3,” it would need to exceed both performances to outshine them.

which song should the Sanderson sisters sing next? Incidentally, I have some suggestions. The tried-and-true options include Duran Duran’s “Hungry Like the Wolf” or Donovan’s “Season of the Witch.” However, in my opinion, “Heads Will Roll” by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs could be an excellent choice for their performance.

4. More Of Hannah Waddingham As The Witch Mother

The Third Movie Needs To Tell Us More About This Awesome Character

Discussing musical performances, I was delighted to spot Hannah Waddingham, a versatile actress and vocalist, appearing briefly in Hocus Pocus 2. Early in the film, Winifred, Mary, and Sarah are chased out of Salem by an enraged crowd, seeking refuge in a dense forest. It is here they encounter Waddingham’s character, the Witch Mother, who initially intends to drain the souls of the young girls. However, she soon discovers that Winifred possesses magical abilities and instead gifts her with a book of spells, aiming to mold the sisters into her apprentices.

Waddingham was ideal for portraying the Witch Mother, and I can’t help but wish there had been more of her in the film. Moreover, the character still holds many secrets about her past, which I find intriguing and would love to explore further. It seems like she has a hidden agenda with the Sanderson sisters, and I’m eager to uncover what her true motivations are. Therefore, it makes sense to bring her back for the third Hocus Pocus movie, and if we could also have Waddingham duet with Bette Midler in that film, it would be an added bonus!

3. Bring Back Binx

This Fan-Favorite Character Needs To Come Back In A Big Way

It’s safe to say that Binx, the chatty black cat from the original “Hocus Pocus,” is undeniably one of the most cherished characters in the movie. In truth, Thackery Binx, a boy trapped in an immortal feline form, was the unsung hero of “Hocus Pocus.” If it weren’t for him, the trio – Max, Dani, and Allison – would have never been able to rescue Salem from the clutches of the Sanderson sisters. And let’s face it, having a witty companion who can withstand being run over by a car certainly adds a unique twist to the story!

Though Binx’s liberated spirit was seen at the end of Hocus Pocus, I was still disappointed to not find him in Hocus Pocus 2. Although a black cat does pay tribute to the character, it lacked Jason Marsden’s voice that brought Binx to life. Yet, there’s hope for his absence to be addressed in future installments like potentially bringing back the character in Hocus Pocus 3 by the creative minds behind the franchise.

2. The Origin Of The Spellbook

We Need To Know Who Actually Wrote It And What’s With That Eye

In the films Hocus Pocus and Hocus Pocus 2, Winifred’s spellbook is a potent artifact filled with malevolent spells, such as the formula for the “Life Potion” that the witches use to steal children’s souls. This book, adorned with human skin and sporting a solitary moving eye, shares striking similarities with the Necronomicon from the Evil Dead series of movies. Initially believed to be a pact made with the devil for the book in the first movie, Hocus Pocus 2 unveiled that it was actually the Witch Mother who gifted the book to young Winifred, and it has been handed down among witches throughout generations.

Despite the expository flashback in Hocus Pocus 2, there remains much enigma concerning the spellbook’s past. Was it truly penned by the devil? Who suffered the gruesome fate of being skinned and losing an eye for its creation? Hocus Pocus 2 further hinted that this book is not just a vessel of evil, but rather, it might possess sentience, suggesting it could be more complex than we initially believed – perhaps, like Binx, someone was trapped within the pages under a curse. I crave clarification, and Hocus Pocus 3 had better unravel these secrets!

1. Let Winifred Be Mean Again

Her Arc In Hocus Pocus 2 Changed The Character Too Much

In the movie Hocus Pocus 2, the concept of sisterhood is strongly emphasized, not just between Becca, Cassie, and Izzy, but also among the Sanderson sisters. For the first time, we witness the familial ties that bind the Sanderson sisters. Unlike in the original Hocus Pocus where they had a Three Stooges dynamic with Winifred as Moe, Hocus Pocus 2 portrays Winifred as more of a nurturing figure to Sarah and Mary, assuming the role of a guardian.

In the final moments of Hocus Pocus 2, Winifred unwittingly performs the Magicae Maxima spell, sacrificing something deeply valuable – her sisters. Once Mary and Sarah vanish, Winifeld feels a pang of remorse for her choice. The trio consisting of Izzy, Becca, and Cassie then cast a spell to reunite the Sandersons, and Winifred expresses heartfelt gratitude for their assistance as she too starts to disappear.

In my perspective, it’s hard to express this without causing some controversy, but the ending of the second Hocus Pocus film left me feeling somewhat disappointed. While the glimpse of the sisters in Purgatory was intriguing, it didn’t quite address the core issue that made the original movie so captivating.

The Sanderson sisters, and particularly Winifred, were enchanting in the first Hocus Pocus because of their wickedness and relentless pursuit of power, with Winifred’s ruthless ambition to stay young and immortal standing out. However, by providing Winifred a redemption arc in Hocus Pocus 2, it effectively diminished the very aspect that I admired about her character in the original film.

In the initial “Hocus Pocus,” Winifred exhibits a self-centered, narcissistic demeanor and shows no remorse for her unpleasant behavior. However, the entertaining sibling relationship in the first movie is characterized by Mary and Sarah continuously catering to Winifred’s whims, despite her poor treatment towards them. With “Hocus Pocus 3,” it would be great if Winifred reclaimed her title as the wicked queen she once was.
