A Michigan high school has firmly responded to a football player whose actions resulted in a serious spinal injury to an opposing player, after a video of the incident went viral.
A funny moment from a Michigan high school football game on September 23rd quickly spread online. A video showed one player jumping and landing flat on top of another after a play, and people shared it widely on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Okay, so I was watching this high school football clip and it was wild. This player from Kalamazoo Central basically landed *on top* of a kid from Lakeshore High. It blew up online – the video got millions of views! People were totally split. Some thought it was hilarious and said it looked like something out of wrestling, while others were seriously upset about it. It was a crazy moment, for sure.
The Lakeshore player’s mother shared that her 15-year-old son had broken his back in two places. This means his football season is finished, and she fears he may never walk again.
High school punishes football player over belly flop
Kalamazoo Central High School has strongly responded to their player’s serious misconduct.
According to the Michigan High School Athletics Association, they’ve been in contact with both schools since Friday. Kalamazoo Central is treating this situation with urgency and has responded quickly and firmly, according to a statement to Fox News.
As a big supporter of Kalamazoo Public Schools athletics, I was really disappointed to hear about this behavior. It just doesn’t line up with what we expect from our athletes, coaches, and everyone involved – things like good sportsmanship, respect for the game, and doing the right thing. It’s not a good look for our schools at all.
Man, I just heard about this and it’s terrible. A high school football player in Michigan, Colton Mims, a 15-year-old, ended up in the hospital after another, bigger player basically fell on top of him. Turns out he broke two vertebrae! Seriously awful news, hoping he has a full recovery.
