Hideo Kojima encourages fans to fight evil after Death Stranding 2’s success. Despite his age, the director still dreams of making a game in space

In the positive reception of Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, its creator, Hideo Kojima, finds ample cause for joy. Consequently, it’s no wonder that this creative mind is enthusiastically granting numerous interviews and engaging in discussions at events, where he shares his aspirations and insights.

Game not from this Earth

At the Sydney Film Festival, Kojima shared his desire to experience situations as thrilling as those Tom Cruise encounters during his daring action scenes on screen. Additionally, the director harbors ambitions to venture into space and create digital content there, making him the first video game creator to do so. However, it’s important to note that Kojima’s proposed stay in space would likely extend beyond a week or two, with several months being more accurate.

I aspire to acquire the necessary skills for proper training, master the art of docking, travel to and reside at the International Space Station temporarily. Despite not being a scientist, I believe I could create games in space. My goal is to be the pioneer in this endeavor. Given that there are many astronauts past the age of 60, it seems plausible that I too can achieve this feat.

On multiple occasions, Hideo Kojima has expressed his ambition to explore space and create a game within that realm. More recently, he discussed this topic in 2023, during the Tribeca Film Festival.

“We can fight and battle”

Simultaneously in London, during the Death Stranding 2 World Tour event, Kojima praised the performances of artists like Caroline Polachek and Chvrches, who contributed to the soundtrack of Kojima Productions’ newest game. He emphasized the difficulties we face globally, stating that unity can help us conquer these hardships.

Currently, we’re grappling with numerous challenges. We see wars, climate change, an increase in earthquakes, the recent pandemic, and more issues at hand. Our future may appear a bit uncertain, but today, by coming together and staying connected, we can stand strong against these obstacles.

As a die-hard fan, I’d like to share that I had the privilege of meeting Norman Reedus, who brought Sam to life in Death Stranding, and the captivating Lea Seydoux, who breathed life into Fragile. Alongside Kojima, they paid tribute to Ryan Karazija, a talented soul who was the vocalist of Low Roar and whose music played a significant role in the original Death Stranding soundtrack, sadly passing away from pneumonia in 2022.

The sequel to Death Stranding, titled ‘Death Stranding 2: On The Beach,’ made its debut on June 26, 2025, exclusively for PlayStation 5. Critics weighed in with a total of 115 reviews on Metacritic, giving the game an average score of 90 out of 100.
