As a seasoned Overwatch player with over five years under my gaming belt, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and confusion upon hearing about this recent development. The addition of the PvE feature to the Kingmaker event’s Quick Play is a long-awaited dream come true for support players like myself.
In the most recent update for Overwatch 2, the developers sneakily incorporated an unmentioned new element – something gamers have been asking for quite some time.
In Overwatch 1, there were three distinct Player versus Player (PvP) story events. These events featured an exceptional aspect where players could view the health and status icons of all their team members at the top of their display screen.
This feature enabled support players to immediately view the health status of their teammates and offer aid accordingly.
In Season 6, when Overwatch 2’s PvE story mode went live, this particular feature reappeared, although it was improved. Previously positioned at the top, the developers shifted the team’s health bar to the bottom-left corner instead.
Initially, the Player versus Environment (PvE) campaign was allegedly scrapped because of weak sales, however, the teamwork aspect of the game proved incredibly popular among players. As a result, there was an immediate demand to adapt this feature for the primary Player versus Player (PvP) segment in Overwatch 2.
Finally, following years of anticipation, players are now experiencing the long-awaited addition of this mechanic in PvP, albeit in a somewhat modified form.
Overwatch 2 finally adds long-request UI feature, but there’s a catch
According to OW Cavalry’s observation, a new Quick Play event titled ‘Kingmaker’, which includes a Player vs Environment (PvE) feature, has been added to the game. You can find this option within the game’s settings menu.
Users can make this feature active by navigating to their settings and choosing ‘Team Overlay for PvP.’ With this option selected, players will be able to view their teammates’ health and ongoing status effects just above their own health display.
Could it be that Party Frames are approaching in #Overwatch2, perhaps? 🤔

Supporters swiftly endorsed the idea, stating repeatedly that it would significantly improve the game experience for those playing as supporters.
“I think it’s a great addition to the game and will help everyone in the team,” one said.
Another joined the conversation: “I’ve been eagerly waiting for this since I began supporting, as my awareness isn’t sharp enough for a silent teammate.
It would be great if we could personalize the size and transparency a bit, but even without that, having it available right now is really beneficial because it allows me to check our progress on the leaderboard less frequently.
It would be great if we could have a customizable “God mode” icon that indicates whether we’ve reached our target numbers without having to constantly check the leaderboard. Adjustable size and opacity would make it even better!

Surprisingly, I didn’t spot the change in the Kingmaker patch notes. What they’ve shared instead is that Kingmaker is a temporary game mode where team size is capped at two players. However, it seems that when you play solo in this mode, your character benefits from additional effects like shorter cooldown times or increased health.
As a gamer, I’m eagerly waiting to find out if Blizzard plans to keep this new feature when Season 14 kicks off on December 10, introducing us to the latest tank hero, Hazard.
