Even though Slow Lows are the least harmful type of infected in “28 Days Later,” you may find yourself puzzled as to why Spike and Jamie allowed one to escape – unless you caught this subtle clue.
Since the harrowing days of 28 Days Later, my world as a gamer has drastically changed. Once the Rage virus swept through, the United Kingdom became a sealed-off zone, barring any incoming or outgoing traffic.
28 Years After takes place on an isolated island reachable only at ebb tide via a causeway. The zombies in this story have advanced from their original forms.
In the recently released film, Slow Lows are appropriately named, and they make their debut early on during Spike’s (Alfie Williams) and his father’s (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) journey to the mainland as part of a rite of passage. A heads up: major spoilers follow!
Slow Low child has human eyes in 28 Years Later
The duo utilized their bows and arrows to eliminate almost every Slow Low, except for one exception: a child. It might seem that this spared life was due to compassion and remorse over killing a young girl, but there’s an overlooked aspect – the peculiarity that she possessed human eyes, unlike the other infected individuals.
It’s possible to interpret that Jamie understands she isn’t a typical Slow Low due to her parent being infected. This idea is supported later when Isla, played by Jodie Comer, assists in the delivery of a normal zombie.
Although the father seems to be a fearsome Alpha creature, there’s no sign that the baby has been affected by it in any manner, which leaves Dr. Ian Kelson, a doctor on the mainland, at a loss for an explanation.
One spectator pointed out this aspect, implying that it might carry significant consequences for the survivors as they progress.
At the outset of the film, when the Slow Lows were initially presented, there was a child who Spike and his father did not kill; instead, they allowed it to escape. Upon close observation, this child’s eyes appear normal without any signs of infection, but it is indeed infected. This observation was shared on Reddit.
It seems like you’re suggesting that the implication is that the child born to the infected woman could potentially lead to the island becoming overwhelmed or overrun in the future.
It appears that the newly-born is infected, yet unlike those who are transformed, purebred infections seem to not cause eye symptoms according to my perspective.
Another individual concurred, suggesting that Spike inadvertently sealed everyone’s fate on the island by giving the offspring of the infected to them. They put it simply: ‘It appears that Spike unknowingly doomed everyone on that island.’
Different people propose various ideas regarding the nature of zombies. One individual suggests that Slow Lows are infants who have transformed and grown, stating that although a baby may not immediately contract the infection at birth, if it is not swiftly eliminated afterward, it will likely transform rapidly.
A baby doesn’t have many abilities yet, just crawling. Similarly, Slow Lows also crawl. It seems to me that Slow Lows might be the newborns from an infected source.
Instead, the response was, “I’m not convinced they’re fully-grown offspring of the infected. More likely, they’re infected organisms that have evolved to cope with resource shortages in a peculiar manner on their own.
They noted that it appears to be akin to the Adapts, being sluggish and maintaining a low profile – essentially conserving energy instead of hunting aggressively, and adopting a feeding strategy of scavenging from the bottom rather than being top-tier predators.
It seemed they spared the last Sloth since using an arrow would be unnecessary, given Spike had made his first kill. Why squander their valuable arrows on a sloth that wasn’t dangerous?
