Over time, there have been numerous titles under the Heroes of Might and Magic franchise, with the first one released in 1995 as a spin-off from the main Might and Magic series. Initially, the intellectual property (IP) ownership belonged to New World Computing, which eventually got absorbed by 3DO.

3DO ceased operations, subsequently transferring the rights to Ubisoft. With Heroes of Might and Magic 5 becoming their first acquisition, a break followed after Heroes of Might and Magic 7 was launched in 2015. Now, Ubisoft has unveiled Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era, developed by the team behind Iratus: Lord of the Dead, Unfrozen. Expected to be released this year via Steam Early Access on PC.
