As a dedicated fan of all things Cyberpunk and CD Projekt, I find myself eagerly anticipating every update about the upcoming live-action project and the new anime series. October 2023 was a pivotal moment for us, with CDP’s partnership with Anonymous Content announced, setting the stage for what promises to be an exciting journey.
Back in October 2023, CD Projekt revealed their collaboration with Anonymous Content on a live-action endeavor, set within the universe of Cyberpunk 2077. However, I wonder about the progress of this project and the current status of the earlier announced Cyberpunk anime for Netflix?
CD Projekt Red leadership shared during their earnings discussion on November 26th, that the live-action adaptation of Cyberpunk 2077 is still in the developmental phase, having made advancements since its initial announcement a year ago. Yet, they have not begun to pitch it to streaming platforms or production studios as of now, but they anticipate this could occur within the next 12 months.
The company, CD Projekt, has expressed that they will contribute financially towards the idea, but it’s important to note that they won’t cover the entire budget if and when the live-action project transitions into full production. They’ve clarified that financing the initial production phase is not the same as funding the entire show’s production costs.
Anonymous Content, a media firm, created the hit shows True Detective and Mr. Robot, as well as the movies Spotlight and The Revenant. Meanwhile, CD Projekt is collaborating directly with David Levine, a creative head who previously contributed to HBO’s Game of Thrones success.
By October 2023, CD Projekt announced they were searching for a skilled writer to develop a narrative for a potential live-action Cyberpunk production, which could take the form of either a movie or a television show.
Back in September 2024, CD Projekt announced they were working on a new Cyberpunk anime, and luckily for us fans, it’s still under development! I can hardly wait to find out if this project is a continuation or expansion of the fantastic Cyberpunk Edgerunners series. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for more updates soon!
Speaking about the Cyberpunk game series, it’s worth mentioning that a follow-up to Cyberpunk 2077, currently known as Orion, is now being worked on in development. Despite a rocky start when it was launched in December 2020, Cyberpunk 2077 has since joined the ranks of all-time best-sellers, moving over 30 million units. Moreover, its expansion pack, Phantom Liberty, has seen even greater success with sales surpassing 8 million copies.
CD Projekt is also making The Witcher 4, and it’s now entered full production.
