Alongside a fresh campaign, raid, and side quests, Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate introduces The Sieve – an exclusive event available at specific periods. Should you manage to join in during these times and complete the entire series of rounds, you’ll be rewarded with some highly desirable items.

The Sieve refers to a collaborative task, primarily conducted near the Caldera, which serves as the central location on Kepler. This activity is operational for just half an hour before going inactive for 1 hour and 44 minutes, implying that timing plays a crucial role – either through patience or good fortune – to participate at the optimal moment.

If you decide to start, you’ll be paired with a team (Fireteam) to tackle a story-based mission centered around the Drifter’s mining facility. Your task will involve setting up markers for the Drifter to mine dark matter scattered across Caldera. However, your Fireteam will also have to defend against waves of enemies, including challenging Minotaurs who can disrupt the mining process for a long time if not handled properly.

Completing the mining task successfully will earn you rewards and allow you to embark on a new challenge. Often, these tasks involve battling bosses, although their type and power may change at random. Defeating the boss will result in additional rewards and the chance to initiate another round of protecting your mining rig.

Teams can follow a repetitive exchange pattern in this process on multiple occasions. Every so often, there may occur an unusual situation where resources (such as Gambit) are accumulated, offering potentially greater rewards. I’ve managed to reach such a stage once but didn’t receive any Exotics, although players in the Destiny community claim that you can obtain an exotic armor piece for each class from The Sieve—a method different from the usual approach of earning armor by persistently completing the Legendary campaign.

Besides offering an entertaining and wildly unpredictable deviation from regular Destiny gameplay patterns, The Sieve is additionally a crucial stage in the journey to obtain Graviton Spike on the Exotic questline.
