An R-rated movie featuring Deadpool and Wolverine in the leading roles is predicted to set a new record for the biggest opening weekend box office, exceeding the previous high, which was earned by the initial Deadpool film with a revenue of $132.4 million.
To provide some context, Inside Out 2, released in 2024, generated an impressive $154.2 million in box office sales during its debut weekend in the US. On the other hand, Barbie, which came out in July 2023, boasted an even more substantial opening weekend revenue of $162 million within the US market.
According to Deadline’s report, the following are the top five movies with the highest opening weekend box office revenues in North America:
- Spider-Man: No Way Home — $260.1 million
- Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness — $187.4 million

Opening in China simultaneously with other international markets is an additional advantage for Deadpool and Wolverine’s movie at the box office. The initial Deadpool film was not screened in China, but its sequel, Once Upon a Deadpool, was released there in a toned-down PG-13 version.
According to GameSpot, Deadpool & Wolverine received a score of 4 out of 10 in their review. Other critiques labeled the film as “awful,” while some considered it a riotously funny comeback for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
