Here's How Many Hours Netflix Users Spend On The Platform Every Day

As a gamer with an eye for data and a heart for entertainment, I find Netflix‘s two-hour average viewing per subscriber quite intriguing. It seems like they’re managing to keep their audience engaged without overwhelming them – a balancing act that even the best RPG developers strive for!

How many hours on average does a Netflix subscriber spend watching content? To answer this question, Netflix recently disclosed data from their latest financial presentation, and it turns out that the typical paid viewer spends around two hours perusing through their library.

As a dedicated viewer, I’ve noticed that Netflix considers the two-hours-per-day engagement as a sign of a thriving user experience. Interestingly, even though users can now opt for account sharing at an additional cost, this two-hour benchmark still holds significance.

Previously discussed, it was found that accounts used for paid-sharing resulted in less viewing time because fewer individuals were tuning in. Furthermore, when these sharers decided to purchase their own subscriptions, a significant portion of the viewing had already been accounted for within the “hours viewed” (affecting the trend in hours watched per subscription). – Netflix statement explained.

Isolating owner households and excluding the impact of paid-sharing, total view hours rose year-over-year so far across the first three quarters of 2024, Netflix said. Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos said, “Engagement is super healthy.”

Netflix currently provides live programming as well, such as the recent hot dog-eating competition between Joey Chestnut and Takeru Kobayashi, which represents a minor portion of their overall viewership. However, they plan to expand this area in the future, with events like the Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul fight and Christmas Day NFL games on the schedule.

Sarandos expressed his enthusiasm about the prospect of amplifying the global excitement that arises when everyone gathers to witness an event, which he finds incredibly enjoyable as a key aspect of live experiences.

Apart from scheduled WWE events in 2025 and a live talk show featuring John Mulaney, Netflix anticipates significant growth in the upcoming years. Notably, Netflix currently holds less than 10% of total television time in major nations worldwide, indicating vast potential for expansion.

Meanwhile, here’s an exciting update: The first trailer for “The Electric State,” the upcoming film by directors Joe and Anthony Russo of Marvel’s Avengers fame, has just been unveiled by Netflix—and it appears to be absolutely stunning!
