On the Nintendo Switch 2, Mario Kart World offers a taste of the open-world style found in Forza Horizon, making it an intriguing addition to the launch lineup. A question that arises naturally is: How long does it take to traverse the entirety of Mario Kart World’s expansive terrain?
Based on my recent hands-on experiences with the game, I can confidently share that the journey time is approximately 9-10 minutes. As I cruised across as Wario in Free Roam mode, venturing as far east as the sea would allow before embarking on a westbound cross-country road trip, it took me slightly over 10 minutes to reach my destination. Other reviewers have reported similar cross-map drives taking around nine minutes.
The driving times may differ due to factors such as the type of vehicle being used and its specific traits, among other considerations. As per Rolling Stone’s report, the standard speed for Mario Kart World is set at 150cc. Consequently, it can be assumed that the timed drives conducted by both Game File and Digital Trends were executed at this speed. Just as in regular races, players can gather coins to boost their speed when exploring freely in Free Roam, thereby reducing the time needed to traverse the map.
In the contemporary gaming era, Mario Kart World, Nintendo’s debut $80 game, has a substantial task in demonstrating its value. Unlike past Mario Kart titles, players in Mario Kart World can venture into the game’s innovative Free Roam mode, exploring a vast map teeming with race tracks, side quests, collectibles, and hidden treasures scattered across various landscapes such as deserts and snowy peaks.
In this updated version of Mario Kart, you’ll find all the classic features, such as Grand Prix races on every course and beloved battle modes. Additionally, there’s a new mode called Knockout Tour, where players race from one course to another. As the game progresses, the slowest racers are gradually eliminated. Originally slated for Switch 1, Nintendo shifted its development to Switch 2, enabling them to expand upon the success of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe with a more expansive sequel.
Among the highly anticipated games for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 is Mario Kart World, which also happens to be the largest exclusive launch title for the console. The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to hit stores on June 5, and certain retailers have already received additional stock in preparation for its release.
