As a longtime League of Legends player, I can’t help but feel a pang of sadness at the perceived demise of one of my favorite champions, Heimerdinger, in Arcane Season 2. Having spent countless hours with this little, hairy gerbil, it’s hard not to develop a soft spot for him. But fear not, fellow fans, for I believe that this might not be the end of our beloved Heim on the small screen.
Although Arcane Season 2 has concluded, there are lingering questions that may significantly impact the future of the League of Legends cinematic universe. Among these uncertainties is the fate of Heimerdinger: did he perish or survive?
Despite the fact that the second chapter of the Netflix animated series marked its conclusion, the creators have emphasized that Arcane is merely the start of numerous other titles inspired by the games.
Additionally, showrunner Christian Linke shared with TopMob that there are “more tales originating from Arcane,” and some characters will extend their narratives into the upcoming League of Legends stories.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but wonder if Mel Medarda is indeed coming back in a Noxus-themed series, but let’s not forget about our beloved champion Heimerdinger! His seemingly fatal end in Arcane Season 2 Act 3 has left us all on edge. However, there’s always the intriguing possibility that he might not be gone for good.
Did Heimerdinger die?
In essence, Heimerdinger met his end in Arcane Season 3 Episode 7, titled ‘Pretend Like It’s the First Time’. He chose self-sacrifice to enable Ekko to return to his time. Nevertheless, the circumstances surrounding his death leave room for different interpretations, with some fans speculating that he may still be alive (further details will follow).
The entire episode stood out as one of Arcane’s finest, detailing the aftermath for Heim, Ekko, and Jayce following their pull into the strange occurrence.
In contrast to Jayce being dispatched to a barren Piltover, serving as an example of the repercussions stemming from Hextech technology, Heimerdinger and Ekko found themselves in a realm devoid of Hextech development and application.
In a truly idyllic setting, Zaun flourished with freedom, Vander lived on, and Jinx continued as Powder, enabling her and Ekko to deepen their affection. Despite his yearning to remain, Ekko recognized the necessity of returning to protect others.
In summary, he gathers Hextech fragments from Jayce’s home, then invites Heim and Powder to assist in reproducing the anomaly. At first, it seems like Heim will participate, but upon reflection, he recognizes that an additional team member is essential to finish the task at hand.
Despite Ekko’s objections, I leap out of the anomaly’s protective shield and swiftly begin manipulating the lever controls. After securing two electrical wires, a surge of energy courses through the system. The operation is successful, but it comes at a cost – Heimerdinger vanishes in the aftermath, a clear sign that he has met his end.
He clearly made peace with his sacrifice, as evidenced by his final words to Ekko: “I must say that since I’ve met you, lad, I’ve truly lived.”
“This recalls what Ekko had mentioned upon entering the Firelights hideout, that providing people with essentials for survival isn’t enough; you must also offer them what they need to truly live.
Why Heimerdinger might still be alive
There are several signs suggesting Heim might be alive and well: He is a yordle, a species known for its immortality within the League of Legends universe; it’s possible he resides in another dimension; and he wasn’t shown dying on-screen.
During Arcane’s first season, Heimerdinger cautions Jayce against delving into Hextech innovation. In the course of their discussion, he discloses his advanced age, which stands at a staggering 307 years.
Throughout my entire life, I’ve chased the enigmas of science, but I regret to say that this particular one remains too elusive to solve effectively.
In the world of League of Legends, unlike ordinary humans with a fixed lifespan, yordles are immortal spirits that do not age naturally. However, it’s important to note that yordles can still meet their end if they are killed.
As a dedicated gamer, I’ve got a theory about Heim that’s been bugging me since the end of Arcane Season 2. You see, given the concept of the multiverse that’s now part of the game world, it’s not impossible he might be alive somewhere else. Just like in some games where characters can be transported to different dimensions, Heim could have been whisked away to another realm, leaving us wondering if he’s still out there, ready for a comeback.
In video games, when yordles like Heimerdinger are “eliminated,” they return to their home, a mystical place called Bandle City. Since we didn’t witness his death in the game, there’s every possibility that he’s currently enjoying himself with his fellow yordles.
However, it’s important to note that since Arcane has revised the League of Legends (LoL) lore for several champions, it leaves room for different interpretations as to the actual events involving Heim.
Still, many LoL fans are reassuring the viewers who don’t play the games and have been left devastated by Heim’s departure, with one writing on Reddit, “Yordles don’t die, they go back to Bandle City.”
In a post on X/Twitter, someone suggested that if Heimerdinger adheres to the established storyline, he doesn’t die but instead “Yordles reappear” in Bandle City. This implies that they are essentially indestructible or immortal.
Heimerdinger could return in new League of Legends TV show
Given his possible eternal existence, it’s quite likely that he might show up in the upcoming League of Legends series, considering he happens to be the Arcane co-creator’s preferred character to control.
Over the past few years, Christian Linke has been particularly fond of playing Heimerdinger, as he shared with TopMob. To him, there’s something immensely satisfying about controlling this tiny, furry rodent character when killing opponents in-game.
In simpler terms, Alex Yee, co-creator of Arcane, playfully commented that Linke behaves badly when he plays Heimerdinger. He often hides in bushes, ambushes opponents by throwing a grenade, and if someone approaches, they’re eliminated without a chance to respond.
Hey there fellow gamers! While I may have been joking around earlier, let me set the record straight: I’ve got more up my sleeve when it comes to our beloved champion, Heimerdinger. In a recent chat with Necrit, I spilled the beans that we might not have seen the last of him on the small screen just yet. So stay tuned!
Essentially, we’ll make sure to provide updates here as soon as any fresh information about the upcoming League of Legends TV series becomes available.
For now, here’s some information on why it’s unlikely we’ll see a third season of Arcane. Meanwhile, you might want to explore other excellent animated series or even take a look at our list ranking the most potent Arcane characters. Enjoy!
