Hudson Williams, the star of the hit romance drama Heated Rivalry, has given fans a sneak peek at what to expect in season 2, which is now in the works. The series, based on Rachel Reid’s popular novel, captivated audiences in late 2025 with its story of two competitive hockey players falling in love, and viewers have been eagerly awaiting the next installment.
Actor Williams, who plays Shane Hollander in the series, recently discussed what fans can expect in the next season of the show during an appearance on The Tonight Show. He explained that the new season will focus on a different kind of conflict. While the first season dealt with internal struggles, season two will feature more external challenges and new villains.

Be warned, spoilers are ahead! The first season of Heated Rivalry mainly focuses on Shane and hockey player Ilya Rozanov (played by Connor Storrie) as they navigate their feelings for each other and try to keep their relationship hidden to protect their careers. However, the season ends with them deciding to commit to each other and cautiously planning to publicly announce their relationship, inspired by American player Scott Hunter (François Arnaud) who came out publicly.
Williams suggests that Shane and Ilya will struggle with how the public perceives their relationship as they try to redefine it. The second season of Heated Rivalry is also incorporating more details from Reid’s Game Changers book series. Upcoming storylines involve Ilya joining Shane’s team to be closer to him, and the two of them publicly announcing a new joint charity project.
The television series Heated Rivalry, created by Jacob Tierney, stars Franco Lo Presti, Callan Potter, Ksenia Daniela Kharlamova, Christina Chang, Dylan Walsh, Slavic Rogozine, and Robbie G.K. Tierney. Tierney has confirmed that season two of the Crave Original won’t be released in 2026, explaining that production is just beginning.
We won’t be able to deliver it at the same time next year. Last year around now, I had already finished five of these, but I haven’t completed any yet this year. So, it will be a little delayed, but still coming soon.
Currently, “Heated Rivalry” remains a very popular show on HBO Max. As of today, January 8th, it’s the most-watched series in the U.S. Critics and audiences also love it, with a 98% rating on Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer and a 95% audience score. Both the cast and viewers have been discussing how the show realistically portrays the lives of some athletes.
The second season of Heated Rivalry is expected to arrive in either 2027 or 2028. Until then, viewers will likely enjoy rewatching the show and searching for similar programs. Given the show’s consistent popularity even after the first season ended, the network is very likely to renew it for a third season.
