‘Heated Rivalry’ Season 2 Release Window Teased by Creator

The popular series Heated Rivalry is set to return to television by April 2027. Creator Jacob Tierney told Gayle King on CBS Morning, as reported by Deadline, that Season 2 is currently being written and will start filming in August 2026. King confirmed the expected April 2027 release date, which Tierney and executive producer Brendan Brady didn’t dispute. Tierney assured fans, “You’ll be seeing more Heated Rivalry on your screens as soon as we can make it happen.”

The second season of Heated Rivalry is scheduled to premiere in April 2027, coinciding with the release of Rachel Reid’s third book featuring Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov, titled Unrivaled. While Unrivaled was originally planned for a September 2026 release, it has been pushed back to June 2027. Reid announced the delay on Instagram on February 24, 2026, explaining it was due to worsening symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, which she was diagnosed with in 2023—around the same time Tierney contacted her about turning Heated Rivalry into a TV series. Reid stated:

Things have been pretty crazy for me lately, which is great, but it’s really cut into my writing time. Honestly, getting ‘Unrivaled’ just right is my top priority – I want it to be the best book it can be, and I’m finding it hard to focus on that when life is so busy!

‘Heated Rivalry’ Phenomenon Explained

Crave/Warner Bros.

Based on Rachel Reed’s 2019 novel, Heated Rivalry tells the story of professional hockey players Shane Hollander (played by Hudson Williams) and Ilya Rozanov (Connor Storrie), who are secretly involved with each other. The series follows their nine-year relationship, showing how their rivalry turns into love as they try to keep their relationship hidden from the public. Heated Rivalry premiered on November 28, 2025, and quickly became popular around the world.

As a huge movie and TV fan, I’ve been hearing everyone talk about Heated Rivalry! It’s been a massive hit, scoring a fantastic 96% on Rotten Tomatoes and really taking off on HBO Max (and Crave in Canada). What’s even more amazing is how it’s impacted real life – NHL ticket sales jumped by 20% after the first episode! And the stars, Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie? They’ve become instant celebrities – I just read Connor Storrie is going to host Saturday Night Live in 2026, which is incredible!

Just two weeks after the first season of Heated Rivalry finished, a second season was confirmed. It will be based on The Long Game, the 2022 follow-up to Heated Rivalry and the sixth book in Rachel Reed’s Game Changers series. Jacob Tierney has stated that Season 2 won’t premiere until after November 2026, so viewers will have to wait more than a year for its return. 2027 promises to be an exciting year for fans of Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov, with both the new season of the show and related books arriving then.
