‘Heartstopper’ Star Kit Connor Says Filming Season 3 Sex Scenes Took ‘About Seven Hours’: ‘We Shot a Lot of Footage’

As a cinephile who’s seen my fair share of coming-of-age dramas, I must say Kit Connor‘s journey is nothing short of heartwarming. His candidness about the intimate scenes in “Heartstopper” Season 3 shows not only his maturity but also the comfort he shares with co-star Joe Locke – a bond that’s clearly visible on screen.

20-year-old Kit Connor, who’s known for his role in the popular Netflix show “Heartstopper”, shared that preparing for the intimate scenes in the forthcoming third season required a considerable amount of work.

In a conversation with The Sunday Times, Connor mentioned that having a strong rapport with fellow actor Joe Locke facilitated the work and they’ve collaborated closely with the same intimacy advisor since the initial season.

“Initially, he was always there to ensure we felt at ease; it was during Season 1. Now, we’re tackling intimate scenes, which Connor discussed with The Sunday Times. We filmed a considerable amount of footage for these scenes, but only a small portion made it to the final cut. In total, we spent around seven hours filming the intimate scenes.”

In the coming-of-age drama series where he portrays Nick Nelson, the actor shared that the show has evolved together with its cast members. “It’s not that we have outgrown the show,” Connor explained, “but rather, the show is growing on its own.”

In a different part of the interview, Connor talked about his forthcoming Broadway debut as Romeo alongside Rachel Zegler’s Juliet. He mentioned that instead of anticipating star-studded events, he is concentrating more on delivering a strong performance.

The actor also shared insights about the difficulties of being famous, such as being recognized in public. “Whenever I’m stopped or can sense someone recognizing me, I feel a bit exposed,” Connor confided to The Sunday Times. He and Locke have been adapting to their new-found fame, admitting that certain activities, like strolling down Oxford Street on a Saturday morning, are no longer possible due to the attention they draw.

2023 saw Connor openly expressing his bisexuality, a step he took despite facing scrutiny on social media. “Truth be told,” he admitted, “I rarely ponder over this aspect of my life these days, and that’s a relief for me. I talked about it extensively before. I believe I exhausted all there was to discuss on the subject. I’ve moved forward, and I feel more at ease as a result.”

Discussing societal matters, Connor shared his thoughts on the notion of harmful masculinity, finding it “totally foreign” to him. He even commented negatively about Andrew Tate, stating that individuals such as him aren’t worth giving a second thought. Connor also emphasized how the series “Heartstopper” presents a fresh viewpoint for younger audiences. He noted, “The characters – lesbians, gay men, trans, cis, asexual – they are essentially good-natured individuals.”

“Heartstopper” Season 3 premieres on Netflix on Oct. 3.
