As a seasoned cinephile with over three decades of movie-watching under my belt, I can’t help but feel a thrill at the prospect of a new “Harry Potter” series gracing our screens. Having grown up alongside Harry, Ron, and Hermione, their story has left an indelible mark on my life, much like a well-casted spell would.
The search for the next Harry, Ron and Hermione has begun.
HBO has made public a casting announcement for the main characters in their forthcoming “Harry Potter” television adaptation. On Monday, interested fans noticed this call-to-action being shared across various platforms, and HBO officially verified its legitimacy with EbMaster as the source.
The casting notice seeks kids aged 9-11 as of April 2025, who are residents of either the United Kingdom or Ireland. It’s important to note that this casting call is open and welcoming to children of all races, ethnic backgrounds, and gender identities.
Our policy is to actively seek out a wide range of talents for all roles, regardless of ethnicity, sex, disability, race, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other legally protected category. Only when explicitly mentioned should these factors be considered.
The application requires the actors to submit two short self tapes, including a short poem or story — but nothing from “Harry Potter.”
1st Self Tape: “I’m asked to share a wee tale, a favorite or one I’ve penned myself, but no Harry Potter here, aye? It could be a verse from a cherished book, a heartfelt monologue from the stage, or even a story I’ve spun. Keep it brief, just thirty seconds, in my own Scottish brogue.
The deadline for submissions is set for Halloween, October 31st, and the show’s production will take place in the United Kingdom at some point between 2025 and 2026. However, there hasn’t been an official release date announced as of yet for the HBO series. During a recent earnings call in February, David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, indicated that they are aiming for a 2026 launch date for the show.
Francesca Gardiner, known for creating shows like “Succession,” “His Dark Materials,” and “Killing Eve,” will take on the role of showrunner and serve as an executive producer for the “Harry Potter” series. Additionally, Mark Mylod, a colleague from “Succession,” will also join the team as an executive producer, directing several episodes.
