HBO Boss Shares Exciting Update Update About The Harry Potter TV Series

As a gamer with an extensive background in fantasy storytelling and a deep-rooted love for all things Harry Potter, I can’t help but feel both excitement and anticipation about the upcoming HBO series. Having grown up reading J.K. Rowling’s books and watching the movies, it’s heartening to see the magic of Hogwarts being brought to life once more on a different screen.

Recently, HBO issued a public audition call for the upcoming Harry Potter series in search of UK-based children suitable for portraying Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley. However, despite the casting process getting underway, it’s important to note that the Harry Potter series is expected to premiere several years from now, as stated by HBO CEO Casey Bloys.

In a conversation with Deadline, Bloys confirmed that while the series is still in development, some groundwork has already been laid. “The writers have begun,” he stated. “[Director] Mark Mylod is on board as well. The team is currently hiring department heads, casting personnel and we’re moving forward.

Regarding the casting call seeking kids of a specific age in March 2025, Bloys stated, “No dates have been revealed yet. I believe they were referring to the age the child actors would be in March, not necessarily when production will begin.

Bloys added that he is “very, very happy and excited about what [screenwriter Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod have] got going,” before predicting a late 2026 or 2027 launch for the show on HBO and Max.

The audition notice welcomed children regardless of ethnicity or origin to try out for the main characters. However, the transphobic opinions of Harry Potter writer J.K. Rowling have remained a contentious issue within the series following her estrangement from certain fans and some actors who were part of the movie adaptations.
