‘Havoc,’ ‘Headshot’ Star Sunny Pang Boards Animal Rights-Themed Indian Action Sequel ‘Lakadbaggha 2’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Sunny Pang is venturing into uncharted waters. Known for his martial arts acting, particularly his recent fight with Tom Hardy in Netflix’s “Havoc,” he has been chosen for his debut role in an Indian film titled “Lakadbaggha 2 – The Monkey Business.

The casting of Pang marks a substantial international acquisition for the sequel, which is set to carry on the animal rights-centric vigilante series initiated by actor-director Anshuman Jha. In this upcoming film, Pang, who gained recognition as the heavy in the 2016 Toronto selection “Headshot,” will take on the role of the main adversary. Producers are promoting it as a high-octane action showcase.

As a passionate cinephile, I eagerly looked forward to the 2023 release of “Lakadbaggha,” directed by Victor Mukherjee and produced by Jha under First Ray Films. In an exclusive interview, Jha shared his excitement about working with Sunny Pang for the sequel:

“Sunny Sir’s performance in ‘Headshot’ was nothing short of inspiring. It has been a long-held dream to collaborate with him, and I can hardly believe that I get to work alongside him, not just in a fight sequence, but in creating something truly extraordinary. Sunny Pang is known for his raw, authentic action sequences, and having him on board for ‘Lakadbaggha 2’ is more than just a casting coup – it’s a declaration of intent. This sequel promises to be bigger, bolder, and more brutally intense in the best possible way, pushing the boundaries of Indian action cinema.

The production process is ongoing, involving locations in Kolkata and West Java, Indonesia. Both main actors have undergone rigorous training in Bangkok under the guidance of coordinators Kecha Kamphakdee and Jaika Stunts. To complete the international ensemble, action veteran Dan Chupong has joined the cast.

Pang shared: “Working on an Indian film for the first time has been truly remarkable, as I’ve felt an overwhelming sense of respect and enthusiasm here. ‘Lakadbaggha’ isn’t just an ordinary action flick; it’s a tale that resonates, a battle with a purpose. At its heart, it advocates for animal rights, making each punch, each kick, more meaningful as they embody this crucial mission.”

Pang expressed: “My debut project in Indian cinema has been an unforgettable experience due to the profound respect and intense passion I’ve encountered. ‘Lakadbaggha’ isn’t just another action movie; it’s a narrative with depth, a struggle with significance. At its core, it stands for animal rights, imbuing every move with a deeper meaning.

Making a raw, authentic martial arts film isn’t simple, but Anshuman is steering this franchise with passion, and the entire team’s commitment is exceptional. As Pang stated, our training in Bangkok to shoot in Indonesia was an intense, unforgettable experience for me. I feel deeply privileged to be part of this series focusing on animal-loving vigilantes. One thing is clear – we’re giving it our all.

Jha launched his directing career for the first time with the film “Lord Curzon’s Manor,” titled “Lord Curzon Ki Haveli.” Notably, Buffalo8 has recently secured the distribution rights for North America and Europe for this production.
