According to recent updates from Level-5, Fantasy Life I: The Girl Who Steals Time has undergone significant changes in the last few months, as a result of constructive criticism received and the departure of Keiji Inafune from the organization.
The game titled “Fantasy Life I: The Girl Who Steals Time,” which was initially announced approximately two years back, serves as a sequel to a well-liked RPG on Nintendo 3DS. In this game, players could adopt diverse roles within a magical realm. However, the release of this continuation has faced multiple delays. Initially slated for a 2023 launch, it is now set to debut on May 21 of the current year. The CEO of Level-5, Akihiro Hiro, has recently disclosed the challenges encountered during the development process of Fantasy Life I.
Last summer saw the departure of Keiji Inafune from Level-5 following some tough criticisms during internal playtests. Notable for his work on series like Mega Man at Capcom and the controversial Kickstarter game Mighty No. 9, Inafune’s company, Comcept, was bought by Level-5 about a year after the less-than-favorable reception of Mighty No. 9. Since then, Inafune has been involved in various productions at Level-5, including Fantasy Life.
After Inafune’s departure and negative feedback during playtesting, Hiro realized that significant changes were essential for the improvement of Fantasy Life. This led to the expansion of the development team, inviting Level-5 studios from various parts of Japan, not just the Osaka studio initially involved in the project. Consequently, features such as open-world exploration, parkour, multiplayer functionality across platforms, and cross-save were added to the game. Furthermore, Hiro mentioned that improvements have been made to the user interface, storyline, and progression systems of Fantasy Life.
Currently, Level-5 feels they’ve taken an already fantastic game and made it even better, creating a much more delightful player experience. This improvement has led to an outpouring of positive feedback during internal testing. Consequently, Hiro has announced that Fantasy Life is now in its final stages of development, with a planned release in May. However, due to the impact on other projects caused by Fantasy Life’s development, Level-5 will slightly postpone the launch of Inazuma Eleven Victory Road. They plan to reveal the new release date for Inazuma Eleven Victory Road during their livestream scheduled for April 11.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that “Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time” is set to drop on various platforms including PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch, all coming May 21st. Can’t wait to dive into this new adventure!
