Harry Potter Star Gary Oldman Jokes He Could Play Dumbledore In TV Show

As a devoted fan who has grown up with Harry Potter and its enchanting world, I find myself torn between excitement and nostalgia as I read about the upcoming HBO series. Gary Oldman, the brilliant actor who brought Sirius Black to life, seems to have a hunch that the producers might opt for a fresh cast, which, if true, would be a bittersweet development.

In a different wording: The acclaimed actor Gary Oldman, who won an Oscar, portrayed Sirius Black in the Harry Potter film franchise. There’s buzz about a captivating TV show being developed by Warner Bros., leaving fans speculating whether any cast members from the original production might return. In a recent interview, Oldman expressed his fondness for the character but suggested that producers may opt to rejuvenate the series with fresh faces instead.

“No one has approached me about that. Being Sirius Black again? I love Sirius. He wasn’t in [the films] enough. He turned up, and then he went through the veil,” he said about his character’s death in Order of the Phoenix. “I would bet my money that they will get a whole new cast of people in. Maybe in a few years I could do Dumbledore.”

It’s plausible that Oldman’s assumption holds true for some characters, given Warner Bros.’ recent open casting call for Harry, Ron, and Hermione. Many believe additional roles may be filled by new actors too. Notably, a change in the actor playing Dumbledore is inevitable since both actors who portrayed him previously, Richard Harris and Michael Gambon, have sadly passed away.

Earlier, Oldman referred to his film performances as “average,” expressing a desire that he had read the books to gain a deeper understanding of his character’s development.

The Harry Potter television series is being developed for HBO and Max, with Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav expressing confidence that it could help the company recover financially. Additionally, WBD is working on creating additional Lord of the Rings movies as part of their strategy to focus on lucrative franchises.

The Harry Potter collection of books was penned by author J.K. Rowling. Controversies surrounding her perspectives on the transgender community have long been associated with the series. Remarkably, she persists in voicing her opinions, which has led to a rift with some admirers of the franchise.

Additionally, it has been announced that a refined version of The Lego Harry Potter Collection will be available in October.
