Harry Potter fans regret that J.K. Rowling abandoned this “lovely” idea for an epilogue

Looking back at the Harry Potter epilogue, it felt like a heartwarming wrap-up to an extraordinary journey we’ve shared for years. As I stood there, watching grown-up Harry, Ron, and Hermione step onto Platform 9 3/4 with their own families in tow, it was as if time had frozen for a moment, allowing us a glimpse into the lives of our beloved characters long after the Battle of Hogwarts. And there they were – old friends reunited, just like in the good ol’ days.

In an intriguing twist, it seems that there might have been one more person standing on that platform – Dudley Dursley himself, accompanied by his magical offspring! Yes, you heard it right. J.K. Rowling once contemplated the idea of Dudley possessing a magic-wielding child. Unfortunately, she ultimately decided against it because she believed that magic wouldn’t be able to cope with Vernon’s genetic makeup.

A few individuals expressed their desire for Dudley to be present at King’s Cross in the Epilogue, along with a magical child. Admittedly, the idea crossed my mind as well, but after giving it some thought, I concluded that any hidden wizarding traits would be destroyed by Uncle Vernon’s genes, so I chose not to act on it.

Harry Potter enthusiasts are disheartened by the choice made. They believe this “charming” notion would have provided a captivating end to Dudley’s tale, who was brought up by parents opposed to magic and encouraged him to share their sentiments. Given the prospect of having a child who is a wizard or witch, he could challenge his parents’ views and embrace Harry’s realm, making his narrative one of transformation and acceptance.

It would have been delightful if Dudley had managed to surpass his mother’s envy and spite, instead choosing to enjoy this moment alongside his cousin – Youre_On_Balon.

The story could have been compelling on its own. Dudley finds himself in a situation where he has a magical child, and he learns to assert himself against his parents while seeking guidance from Harry to become a good father – blac_sheep90’s tale.

It could also make sense if Harry had magic, considering his mother was born to muggles as well. Oh, how fascinating it would be to see Petunia’s response upon discovering her grandchild possessed magical abilities – truly extraordinary!

I love this so much that it’s now headcanon for me – chewbubbIegumkickass.

Regrettably, that concept didn’t develop fully. Despite HP fans never witnessing Dudley with a magical child, it doesn’t imply that his character didn’t evolve or grow closer to his cousin. J.K. Rowling admitted that Dudley maintained contact with Harry throughout their lives, and even Harry, along with Ginny and their children, would visit Dudley’s family when they were in the vicinity.
