Harrison Ford Says He’s Still Acting for the ‘Essential Human Contact’

As a seasoned movie critic with over three decades of film-watching under my belt, I must say that Harrison Ford continues to impress me with his versatility and dedication to his craft. At 82, he’s not just acting; he’s embodying characters that resonate with audiences of all ages. His latest role in “Shrinking” showcases a different side of him, but it’s nothing new for someone who considers everything he does as comedy – even the high-octane action sequences we’ve come to associate him with!

At the age of 82, Harrison Ford is grateful for his decision to continue acting, as it provides him with “vital interpersonal connections.

Ford mentioned in a Vanity Fair interview that he enjoys collaborating with individuals who are highly skilled and experienced. He finds it enjoyable to work with such talented people on ‘Shrinking’,” is a natural and easy-to-read paraphrase of the original statement.

Ford, famed for portraying Han Solo and Indiana Jones within the “Star Wars” and “Indiana Jones” film series, shares screen time with Jason Segel and Jessica Williams on the Apple TV+ show.

Ford portrays the role of Dr. Paul Rhoades, an experienced therapist and a fellow professional to Jimmy (Segel), at the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Clinic.

He also talked about his approach to playing Han Solo. “He was a character that was committed to his ignorance,” Ford said. “Deeply committed to his ignorance. But if he had been lacking in a sense of humor, it would not have been fun for the audience. I saw that [run] as physical acting that got character information across. I always felt that he was barely containing his physical impulses.”

During the interview, Ford shared that although he’s known for acting in intense action movies, a significant part of his acting career has been comically oriented or had a humorous tone.

Ford confided to Anthony Breznican that he often finds himself quite humorous,” said Ford. “In his view, every action he’s taken in life is a joke.

Ford stated that he approaches jokes similarly to how he handles serious or emotional scenes, using the same thought process.

In a recent interview, Bill Lawrence, creator of “Shrinking”, noted that Ford’s full commitment to the character was crucial for landing the role.

Lawrence explained to Vanity, “Let me show you an illustration. In the program, Harris’ role didn’t understand the term ‘raw-dogging’. At first, Harris questioned if this would be amusing or merely make him appear as an outdated older person. However, he was open-minded enough to allow us to proceed with it. To our surprise, it brought such laughter from the team that his character kept using it incorrectly.

“Shrinking” will return to Apple TV+ for its second season on Wednesday.
