Harris-Trump Debate Outperforms Biden Debate in Viewership, Per Early Nielsen Ratings

As someone who has been following politics closely for decades, I must say that Tuesday night’s debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump was nothing short of electrifying! The viewership numbers are already breaking records, with an estimated 57.5 million people tuning in – a 12% increase from the June debate between Trump and President Joe Biden.

According to the initial assessment by Nielsen, Tuesday’s presidential debate featuring Vice President Kamala Harris against Former President Donald Trump seems to have performed exceptionally well.

The initial tally suggests around 57.5 million viewers tuned into the debate, but the official figures won’t be released until Tuesday evening. This is a 12% increase compared to the 51.3 million who watched Trump’s debate with President Joe Biden in June, prior to Biden endorsing Kamala Harris.

The overall count for Tuesday is expected to increase further, considering that only the broadcasts on ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, CNN, Fox News Channel, and MSNBC have been included so far. The viewership figures from networks like Telemundo, Univision, PBS, Scripps News, Newsmax, Fox Business, NewsNation, Headline News, and BET, along with out-of-home viewership and streaming data, are yet to be added. The remaining totals, including the streaming data, will be updated later in the week.

The discussion held at Philadelphia’s National Constitution Center, led by David Muir and Linsey Davis from ABC News, became a hot topic on social media due to its large audience. One of the most-discussed parts was when Trump mentioned an unverified claim about Haitian immigrants in Ohio: “They’re eating dogs,” he stated, “The people who arrived — they’re eating cats. They’re eating the pets of the locals.” Multiple times, Muir and Linsey intervened to correct the facts – a point often criticized during CNN’s Trump-Biden Debate moderation. For instance, they highlighted that Springfield’s city manager stated there were no substantiated reports supporting the pet rumor.
