In a matter of weeks, the zombie survival game “Into The Dead: Our Darkest Days” will be available on Steam as an early-access title. This announcement was made at the most recent Future Games Show. The game, set in a 2D environment, launches on April 9 for $25 and serves as a spinoff from a series that has accumulated over 150 million downloads on mobile devices.
Instead of typical mobile games that are first-person auto-runners, Into The Dead: Our Darkest Days is a 2D third-person survival game set in Texas during the year 1980. Unlike other games, this one focuses on managing characters’ health and wellbeing, searching for essential items, and constructing a base. Fighting off enemies should be minimized as even a small number of undead creatures can lead to character death, particularly if they are already injured, ill, or fatigued.
Similar to State of Decay, this game incorporates permanent death, meaning there are no second chances; if you lose your entire community, the game is over. The game’s scarcity of resources and challenging decisions evoke This War of Mine, often forcing players to make tough choices from a limited set of unfavorable options.
Recently, TopMob had a trial run of the upcoming game’s Steam demo, and discovered that it addresses similar satisfaction points as Undead Labs’ previously mentioned zombie series. As such, this new game presents an enticing choice to consider while we anticipate the release of State of Decay 3.
A Mac version is coming sometime later, though no console versions have been announced yet.
