As a devoted follower, I’m thrilled to share that renowned filmmaker Hansal Mehta and producer Sahil Saigal are embarking on an exciting project. They will be adapting the critically acclaimed Sri Lankan comedy “Nelum Kuluna,” which is known as “Tentigo” in Hindi, for Indian audiences under their banner True Story Films. It’s a privilege to be part of this endeavor that brings such a remarkable piece of work to our local screens.
On March 14, the movie titled “Tentigo” made its debut in Sri Lankan cinemas. Simultaneously, the Tamil version of the same film, called “Perusu,” which was also helmed by Ram, premiered in Indian theaters on the same day.
The first-time production by Mukesh Chhabra, the renowned casting director, is being made in Hindi, and Hiranya Perera, known for producing “Tentigo,” has joined him as an associate producer.
As a film enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that True Story Films and the dynamic Crawling Angel Films are teaming up! The talented duo, Sanjay Gulati and Neeraj Pandey, will be jointly producing the Hindi version of our upcoming project.
As a devoted cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that the three-time Filmfare award winner, Karan Vyas, renowned for his work in “Scam 1992,” “Scam 2003,” “Scoop,” and “Saas Bahu aur Flamingo,” is set to breathe life into a comedy classic. He’s planning to reinterpret it in Hindi, assuring us a refreshingly zany spin on the original, as producers describe it.
Initially, “Tentigo” garnered global acclaim when it was initially screened at the 2023 Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, and it was honored with the Special Jury Award.
Although specifics about the director and actors are still confidential, the producers assure us of a stellar cast to elevate the production. Mehta expressed his skepticism towards remakes but found this one genuinely intriguing. Upon hearing ‘Tentigo,’ he couldn’t help but laugh out loud. It was witty, rebellious, and emotionally resonant – a story that lingers in your mind. He believes this adaptation will strike a chord with Indian audiences nationwide.
Chhabra, who has been working with Mehta as a casting director since the Toronto film “Shahid,” expressed: “Working together with him as a producer feels like a logical progression of what we’ve established over time – I’m looking forward to this fresh phase in my professional journey.
Sanjay Gulati, from Crawling Angel Films and recognized for films like the Sundance winner “Girls Will Be Girls,” “Once Again,” and “Nimtoh,” stated: “During the past decade, numerous films I’ve worked on have debuted at film festivals, yet they frequently escaped public attention. With ‘Tentigo,’ a comedy, I challenge the conventional ‘festival film’ categorization. By creating this adaptation, I strive to break free from such limitations, as my ultimate goal is to connect with a broad audience.”
