In June, renowned Oscar-winning musician Hans Zimmer is set to attend the Banff World Media Festival. There, he’ll be bestowed with a career achievement award during the Rockie Awards ceremony on June 9th. This marks the first time that Banff’s Gala Honors will coincide with the Rockie Awards International Program Competition.
In addition to receiving the award, Zimmer is also scheduled to participate in a discussion titled “In Conversation.” This event will feature him alongside composers from the Emmy-winning Bleeding Fingers Music collective, which he co-founded in 2013. The conversation will involve Anže Rozman, Ho-Ling Tang, Jacob Shea, Kara Talve, and Sami Goldberg, and it will focus on the impact of Bleeding Fingers on film and television scoring.
Jenn Kuzmyk, the executive director of Banff World Media Festival, stated that Hans Zimmer has not just reshaped cinema music with his innovative compositions but also transformed the industry through Bleeding Fingers. This venture has nurtured a new breed of composers and created captivating soundtracks for movies, TV shows, and beyond. The impact of Zimmer’s work transcends the screen, influencing the rhythm of contemporary entertainment as a whole. We are delighted to recognize his remarkable career at Banff,” said Kuzmyk.
Zimmer is now part of an esteemed group previously recognized for career accomplishments, which includes Alanis Obomsawin, Dan Rather, Christine Baranski, Larry King, Ed Asner, William Shatner, James Burrows, and David Attenborough. According to Banff, this honor is given to individuals whose exceptional work has had a substantial influence on the world of screen-based industries.
Undoubtedly, I’m recognized for my work in films such as “Dune: Part One,” “Top Gun: Maverick,” “No Time to Die,” “Gladiator,” “The Dark Knight Trilogy,” “Inception,” “The Last Samurai,” “12 Years a Slave,” “Blade Runner 2049,” and many others. To date, I’ve scored over 500 projects and have been honored with two Academy Awards, three Golden Globes, five Grammys, an American Music Award, and a Tony Award, among my numerous accolades. Notably, I’ve just completed my first North American “Hans Zimmer Live” tour.
This year, the BBC is ahead with 28 nominations for the Banff World Media Festival’s Rockie Awards International Program Competition. Trailing closely are National Geographic and Hulu with seven nominations each, while Disney Television Studios and Audible have five apiece. Notably, this year’s festival will combine the Banff Gala Awards and Rockie Awards into a single ceremony. The live awards show is scheduled for Monday, June 9 at 5:30 p.m. Mountain Time (4:30 p.m. Pacific Time/ 7:30 p.m. Eastern Time).
