Hannibal Reunion Movie Is Finally Coming To American Home Release After Just $1M Box Office Run

sets its home release in the U.S.

Bryan Fuller’s first feature film, the action fantasy Dust Bunny, arrived in theaters on December 12th after premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). The film reunites Fuller with actor Mads Mikkelsen, who previously starred in Fuller’s critically acclaimed NBC series, Hannibal, which developed a dedicated fanbase over three seasons.

After a limited release in theaters, Lionsgate has announced that Dust Bunny will be available to rent or buy digitally and on 4K Ultra HD on April 28th. The 4K version will cost $26.99 and include high-quality Dolby Vision HDR visuals and Dolby Atmos audio. It will also come with special features, details of which will be announced soon.

Despite costing $12 million to make, the movie Dust Bunny didn’t perform well in theaters, earning less than $1 million at the box office.

Featuring Sophie Sloan, David Dastmalchian, Sigourney Weaver, Sheila Atim, Rebecca Henderson, and Caspar Phillipson, Dust Bunny tells the story of a young girl (Sloan) who asks her enigmatic neighbor (Mikkelsen) to help her eliminate the monster she believes is responsible for her family’s disappearance. Director and writer Dan Fuller penned the screenplay for the film.

Despite not being a major hit in theaters, Dust Bunny received good reviews thanks to its original idea, delightful acting, and stylish look. Critics on Rotten Tomatoes gave the film an 85% rating, and audiences largely agreed, giving it an 81% score.

A review of the film by ScreenRant’s Gregory Nussen, writing as Dust Bunny, offers a different perspective than many others. While praising the acting of Mads Mikkelsen and Sloan, Nussen gave the film a score of 4 out of 10, criticizing its script and how it looked on screen. He wrote:

The film is shockingly over-the-top, and the bizarre costumes are just one part of it. Aurora’s apartment is decorated in a loud, forest green with overwhelming floral wallpaper. She avoids touching the floor – seemingly to appease a rule about dust bunnies – by scooting around on a copper pig while pushing with a purple, candy cane-striped broom. The action sequences are ridiculously exaggerated with flashing lights, feeling more like an anime than a live-action film.

The new film, Dust Bunny, is being released as fans still hope for a fourth season of Hannibal. Hannibal, a dark series that aired on NBC, was created by Bryan Fuller and starred Mads Mikkelsen as the infamous Hannibal Lecter and Hugh Dancy as FBI profiler Will Graham.

After its cancellation in 2015 after season 3, fans have consistently asked for a fourth season of Hannibal on a different platform. While Bryan Fuller, Mads Mikkelsen, and Hugh Dancy have all said they’d be willing to come back, there haven’t been any concrete steps taken toward a revival yet.

Bryan Fuller recently discussed the possibility of continuing the Hannibal series with ScreenRant. He explained that the rights to the show are currently complicated, but he remains hopeful that a revival will happen eventually.

Whether people will enjoy watching Dust Bunny at home is still unknown, but it’s the most like a reunion of the Hannibal cast and crew that fans have seen so far. If reviews stay positive, the film could become very popular once it’s available to stream or buy.
