Actress Hannah Einbinder, known for her role in “Hacks,” and the legendary Gillian Anderson from “The X-Files” are joining forces to tackle a fresh approach to the horror genre with a unique slasher film.
Jane Schoenbrun’s ‘Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma,’ set to be her third feature film, gained recognition following the success of her psychological horror drama ‘I Saw the TV Glow,’ one of the most praised indies from 2024.
Plan B will produce the movie, with Mubi providing financing and distributing it in selected regions such as North America, Latin America, the UK, Ireland, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, Turkey, India, Australia, and New Zealand. The Match Factory is managing international sales for the rest of the world.
In “Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma,” the notorious “Camp Miasma” slasher series is being revived once more. However, when the director of the newest installment develops an unhealthy fixation on the elusive actress who portrayed the “final girl” in the initial film, a fresh type of horror arises from the depths of the lake.
Schoenbrun stated, “I create movies that I longed for as a child.” He described “Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma” as his effort to embody the ‘sleepover classic’: an exhilarating yet comforting late-night adventure that invites viewers from the horror section of their local video store. He’s thrilled about spending this summer at camp, joining forces with the hilariously genius Hannah Einbinder, the esteemed Gillian Anderson, and the bold team at Mubi and Plan B. By approving this movie, they’ve effectively unleashed a torrent of blood, gore, and assorted liquids upon us all.
Schoenbrun is a filmmaker and writer who identifies as non-binary. Apart from “I Saw the TV Glow,” their other works include “We’re All Going to the World’s Fair” and “A Self-Induced Hallucination.” The film, “I Saw the TV Glow,” was recognized with six Independent Spirit Award nominations for best picture, screenplay, and direction, as well as three Gotham Awards. In 2026, Hogarth will publish their debut novel titled “Public Access Afterworld.
As a film enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that some of the recent and forthcoming Mubi productions have me truly excited! These include Kelly Reichardt’s “The Mastermind,” Karim Aïnouz’s captivating “Rosebush Pruning,” and Jim Jarmusch’s intriguing “Father Mother Sister Brother.” Each of these films promises a unique cinematic experience that I can’t wait to immerse myself in.
Schoenbrun is handled by CAA, Entertainment 360, and Kimberly Jaime at Jackoway Austen; Einbinder is managed by CAA, The Lede Company, Cary Dobkin and David Krintzman at Yorn, Levine, Barnes, Krintzman, Rubenstein, Kohner, Endlich, Goodell & Gellman; Anderson is represented by UTA, Independent Talent, and Premier Communications.
