Following the remake of Halo: Combat Evolved, rumors suggest the entire original Halo trilogy – Halo 2 and Halo 3 – could also be rebuilt using the powerful Unreal Engine 5. A well-known Halo insider is claiming both remakes are currently in development.
Following the recent announcement of a remake for Halo: Combat Evolved, a reliable Halo source on X (formerly Twitter), known as Halo Leaks, has indicated that Halo 2 and Halo 3 will receive similar overhauls. Just like the Combat Evolved remake – which is updating the 2001 game with better graphics, revised gameplay, and new content – these rumored remakes will also include a sprint feature and will focus solely on the single-player campaign, without any multiplayer options.
Halo Leaks didn’t share many specifics about the remakes, but indicated that Halo Studios plans to bring back the classic multiplayer experience with the release of Halo 7.
When Halo: Combat Evolved launches on PlayStation in 2026, it will mark the first time a Halo game has been available on the platform, with future releases planned for PlayStation as well. Microsoft and Halo Studios hope this will introduce Halo to a new generation of players, starting with the original game and continuing through the classic trilogy. Josh Stein, a social marketing manager at Xbox, believes bringing Halo to PlayStation 5 is “a win for the future of Halo and its fans, both new and old.”
The Halo series has seen remasters before. The original Halo: Combat Evolved got a visual update in 2011, and Halo 2 was remastered in 2014 as part of the Master Chief Collection. Unlike those games, Halo 3 hasn’t been visually updated, making it a strong possibility for a remake similar to the one given to Combat Evolved.
With the release of Halo: Campaign Evolved still over a year away, don’t expect official news about remakes of Halo 2 or Halo 3 anytime soon. However, people who worked on the original Halo games have started sharing their thoughts on Campaign Evolved. Marcus Lehto, the creator of Master Chief, said he loves the remake, but another former developer criticized some of the changes made to it.
