Halle Berry Says Pierce Brosnan ‘Restored My Faith in Men’ on James Bond Set: ‘There Couldn’t Be a Human Who Is More of a Gentleman’

As a movie enthusiast who has witnessed the evolution of cinema, I must say that Halle Berry’s reminiscence about working with Pierce Brosnan on “Die Another Day” resonates deeply with me. Her heartfelt admiration for the man who restored her faith in men is truly inspiring, not just as a fan of Bond films, but also as a fellow appreciator of genuine human interactions within the sometimes tumultuous world of showbiz.

In a video chat with Wired, Halle Berry expressed that Pierce Brosnan rekindled her trust in males during the filming of their James Bond movie, “Die Another Day” from 2002. This was Brosnan’s swan song as 007, following a seven-year stretch that began with “GoldenEye” in 1995. In this film, Berry portrayed the character Jinx, Bond girl.

As I reflect on my time working alongside him, I can’t help but echo those famous words: “He will always be my Bond.” Working with Pierce Brosnan was truly a remarkable experience that left an indelible mark on me. He not only brought the character of James Bond to life, but he also rekindled my faith in men, demonstrating through his actions and demeanor that there are indeed gentlemen like Pierce Brosnan walking among us.

“Bond wasn’t initially someone I hoped to join, but I’ve always admired the films,” Berry went on. “Once I was in one, it felt like becoming a piece of cinematic lore. These movies are legendary; they’re an essential part of our film history, and I’m genuinely privileged to have been a part of such a storied production, particularly alongside Pierce.”

In “Die Another Day,” Berry’s character, Jinx, became hugely popular with James Bond fans, prompting producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson to consider a standalone movie for Berry. However, as reported by EbMaster in 2020, the plan was halted due to MGM’s hesitation over the film’s $80 million budget. This decision angered Broccoli significantly, as one of her key objectives as the guardian of 007 is to move away from the sexist attitudes that were prevalent in the Bond novels and early films.

“Berry later shared with EbMaster that it was extremely disheartening when the Jinx movie didn’t come through. It seemed progressive for its time, but unfortunately, investors weren’t prepared to invest such a significant amount in a Black female action star. They had doubts about its worth, which was unfortunate.”

At present, Berry is featured in the Netflix action film “The Union,” acting alongside Mark Wahlberg. You can check out her Wired interview video, as shared in the post below.
