Halle Barry Would Play Catwoman Again On One Condition

As a long-time fan of Halle Berry’s captivating performances, it’s heartening to see her unwavering resilience and grace in the face of adversity. The 20th anniversary of Catwoman was a bittersweet reminder of a film that, at the time, didn’t receive the recognition it deserved. However, Berry’s recent statements and the film’s newfound appreciation among younger audiences are truly vindicating.

Reflecting on last month’s milestone, I can’t help but reminisce about the 20th anniversary of Catwoman, a spin-off from the Batman saga that saw Halle Berry don the iconic feline suit. Contrary to its predecessor, Michelle Pfeiffer’s Selina Kyle from Batman Returns, Berry’s Catwoman was Patience Phillips, a character distinctly separate from Gotham City and Batman’s realm.

On The Tonight Show, Halle Berry was asked by host Jimmy Fallon if she would reprise her role as Catwoman. “Perhaps, if I could direct it,” said Berry, who has previously directed the sports drama Bruised for Netflix in 2020. Earlier in the conversation, Berry discussed how Catwoman is finding a fresh audience that appears to have a growing fondness for the character.

Berry expressed his fondness for Catwoman: “I really liked it,” he said. “Initially, critics weren’t too kind. They called it terrible. But I don’t think that’s so awful… What makes me happy is that kids have found it online and they enjoy it immensely… So, it feels validating because now they’re saying it’s great and what was everyone’s issue with it?”

As a gamer, I remember vividly the year 2005 when Catwoman, a movie that didn’t quite strike the right chord with audiences, landed four Razzie Awards on its belt, including Worst Picture and Worst Actress (for Halle Berry). Unlike other recipients of this less-than-coveted award, Halle Berry graciously accepted her Razzies in person and even brought along her hard-earned Oscar for Best Actress. Despite the mixed reviews, Halle has always stood by Catwoman, and on its 20th anniversary this July, she took to Instagram to share some nostalgic photos, reminding us all of a cinematic journey we’ll never forget.

In my gaming world, I just found out that the adorable felines appearing in Berry’s photos are now part of her family! They somehow managed to wander into her backyard, and she couldn’t resist their charm. Right now, you can catch Berry shining on The Union on Netflix. Her upcoming movie, Never Let Go, is set to premiere in theaters on September 20th. It’s going to be quite a show!
