Haley Joel Osment Wants To Play Link In The Zelda Movie

As a seasoned gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in the magical world of Hyrule, I must say, the prospect of a live-action Legend of Zelda movie is nothing short of exhilarating! Hearing that Haley Joel Osment, an actor I’ve admired since his days as a precocious child star, has expressed interest in playing Link, sends my gaming heart aflutter.

Nintendo and Sony are collaborating to produce a live-action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda, and Haley Joel Osment has expressed interest in joining the cast as Link. In a recent interview, Osment shared that he’s been an admirer of the game franchise since his youth and is keen on trying out for the role. He humorously pondered whether his age (37) might be too great to portray Link, but suggested that anything could be possible.

He informed IGN, “Indeed, my involvement is clear, they are fully aware that I have been involved.” Referring to Link, he said, “Wasn’t he around 37 during these events? And here I was, thinking as a child, ‘Surely they will soon make a movie based on Ocarina of Time, the storyline is already set!’ Only to realize later that turning it into a captivating two-hour film would be quite a challenge.

In particular, Osment expressed his desire for the Zelda film to incorporate the storylines of Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask. He referred to these games as his “original Star Wars trilogy.

The film adaptation of Zelda is being developed, with the director of Planet of the Apes and Maze Runner, Wes Ball, on board. Spider-Man’s producer, Avi Arad, is overseeing this project, which is a collaborative effort between Nintendo and Sony Pictures. Notably, Nintendo is contributing more than half of the movie’s production costs.

The actress Hunter Schafer from the show “Euphoria” has expressed interest in playing the role of Zelda, after a fan-led campaign. However, no official announcements regarding casting have been made as of now.

Previously, the director hinted at his concept for the Zelda film. “I’ve got a fantastic plan,” he shared. “I’ve been mulling it over for quite some time now, envisioning how spectacular a Zelda movie could be… I aim to meet people’s highest expectations. I understand the significance of this [Zelda] series in the hearts of many, and I want it to be a substantial film that offers an immersive experience.

Besides the upcoming Zelda live-action film, Nintendo is also working on The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2, and most recently, the voice actor for Toad, Keegan-Michael Key, shared some thrilling news about it.
