As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the Alarmo hacking community has truly outdone themselves this time! The fact that they’ve managed to install Doom on an alarm clock is nothing short of astounding. It brings back memories of my early days when we used to mod consoles with tape decks and cartridge swaps.
Nintendo‘s latest device, Alarmo, was designed as an expensive digital alarm clock featuring graphics and themes from popular Nintendo Switch games. However, resourceful hackers have been working diligently to expand its capabilities beyond just telling time. Remarkably, within a month of its release, someone has managed to install Doom on the Alarmo, complete with video evidence showcasing their achievement.
The individual in question, known as GaryOderNichts, has a history of finding methods to add cat images on Alarmo. Moreover, he explained the process to erase the firmware file from Alarmo, enabling users to upload customized codes using a USB. In his latest hack, he acknowledged X user Spinda for determining the Alarmo SWD pads. Furthermore, he mentioned that Spinda was the first to extract the eMMC contents.
While it’s true that Doom can now be played using a recent hack, there are some limitations. The buttons on an Alarmo clock aren’t intended for gaming, and unfortunately, the current Doom hack doesn’t support sound. Despite these challenges, it has been demonstrated that games like Doom can be made to work on an Alarmo, which could potentially lead to a surge of similar hacks unless Nintendo takes steps to prevent it.
Currently, you can find the game Alarmo at Nintendo stores or if you have a subscription to Nintendo Switch Online. However, it’s not due for a broader release until sometime in 2025.
