Gundam Breaker 4 Derivation Synthesis Guide: How to get Fusion-exclusive unit parts

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must say that Gundam Breaker 4 has truly taken the cake when it comes to unique features that immerse players in the game. The Derivation Synthesis or Fusion mechanic is an absolute gem, reminiscent of real-life model kit assembly techniques. It’s not just about slapping together parts; this feature allows for creative expression and strategic planning, much like building a Gunpla from scratch.

As a dedicated gamer, I’ve always been impressed by how the Gundam Breaker series incorporates a unique feature that mirrors real-life model kit assembly techniques. This feature allows me to transform an existing part into something entirely new, a process originally called Scratch Build but now known as Derivation Synthesis. Bandai Namco has ensured that this exciting element continues in Gundam Breaker 4, making my gaming experience even more immersive and creative!

As a gamer, I’d put it like this: “Just as some games offer the ability to transform one item into another, this new feature does the same! There are certain items that can only be acquired through this unique method. If you’re intrigued and want to know more about this exciting gameplay element, keep reading!”

The Basics of Derivation Synthesis / Fusion

As a dedicated player, I’ve discovered that the Derivation Synthesis feature becomes accessible once you’ve progressed through Chapter 2 in the main story and unlocked the general Synthesis function. Although the standard Synthesis option (which lets you boost a part’s strength and rarity) is already at your disposal on parts currently being used in your build, you’ll need to select any component that isn’t already set for Derivation Synthesis to activate this feature. Please note, not every part may have a suitable candidate for derivation synthesis.

This function involves using a particular component as a resource. The created item will solely derive its attributes from the initial base part you chose, effectively erasing any traits from the subsequent material component. Typically, components can be primarily generated within the same scale grade (HG, MG, or SD). However, certain blends incorporate both HG and SD parts; MG parts stand alone since they cannot replace HG parts in a recipe.

In this game, you can generally acquire most of the unit components either by buying Gunpla kits at the store or through drops from defeated enemies during Story and Quest missions. To illustrate, the Fuunsaiki horse unit was previously exclusive to Scratch Builds from the Master Gundam in Gundam Breaker 3. However, here, purchasing the Master Gundam & Fuunsaiki kit will grant you the full set of parts for the horse right away.

Nevertheless, players who want to complete their in-game Gunpla parts collection will eventually want to utilize this feature, as there are a couple of units that can only be exclusively obtained from this method. However, mentioning these units would spoil the endgame parts, so a Spoiler Warning is in effect for the next segment. If you have either cleared the main story or do not mind spoilers, you may continue reading after the jump below.

We’ve hidden this section with spoiler alerts since these characters will first appear during the final chapters of the game and have significant roles in the story. The characters being referred to are the RC-01, Lin Carnation, and RC-02, Lilin Carnation.

You don’t need to hold off for a post-launch update or the start of the Season Pass DLC to acquire these units. Instead, they become available right away when the game launches. However, since they aren’t typically accessible through regular methods, here’s a guide on how you can include them in your Gunpla parts collection.

To initiate the procedure, ensure that both Mobile Doll May and ZGMF-X13A Providence Gundam are prepared. Pressing “Derivation Synthesis” on either part will potentially generate the RC-01 Lin Carnation as an option. Keep in mind that if you’ve already upgraded one of the necessary components, set it as the Base Part to avoid the Material Part’s stats being disregarded entirely.

After creating a Lin Carnation, you can opt to use Derivation Synthesis on it once more to display the Lilin Carnation as a possible fusion option. The subsequent materials required will vary depending on the part type. For the Head and Body, you’ll need the Mobile Doll May (Real) variant, while other components such as the Right & Left Arms, Legs, and Backpack necessitate another standard May part since Real versions are not available for those parts.

After you’ve finished using both Carnation sets within the game, they won’t reappear for purchase in the Shop section because they were initially introduced and Bandai has not yet made their Gunpla kits available for sale in the real world. Furthermore, these units are never encountered as enemy units during regular in-game missions (unless new DLC missions are released).

In Bounty Hunter mode, you might come across units equipped with these specific components if someone has uploaded them. However, due to the vast array of unique builds being added to the server, your chances of finding a unit with Carnation parts could be relatively low. Therefore, Derivation Synthesis is currently the best method for obtaining these rare components.

In passing, it’s worth mentioning that the Carnation sets share the same limitations as other human-like sets like Super Fumina: The constituent parts of each unit can only be changed in color except for the Backpack part. However, aside from their distinct colors (Red for Lin and Blue for Lilin), these Carnation sets are quite similar in appearance. This similarity could potentially restrict your color choices when integrating them into your Gunpla designs.
