We had a chat with Ken Miyauchi, the producer of Guilty Gear Strive, regarding its future, and he hinted at a significant development that could leave players astonished.
Back in 2021, when the world was still grappling with the pandemic, I found myself immersed in a fresh fighting game sensation: Guilty Gear Strive. As a gamer, it’s not every day that you come across a game that instantly grabs your attention like this one did. Arc System Works really outdid themselves with the stunningly upgraded visuals and an array of thrilling new characters that made Strive a must-have for any fighting game enthusiast.
For the past four years, speculation has been rife among players about the direction of the game and the future plan for Strive, considering the present circumstances at ArcSys.
To provide some context, the studio has been expanding its gaming portfolio by exploring various genres, such as narrative adventures like ‘Dear Me, I was…’ and isometric action games like ‘Damon and Baby.’ In addition, they introduced Guilty Gear’s inaugural guest character, Lucy from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, in 2024.
Arcsys is preparing “something big” for Guilty Gear Strive
It appears that ArcSys has quite a busy schedule ahead with the development of Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, in addition to the anticipated updates for Strive, as per Miyauchi’s statement.
At Anime Expo 2025, he shared with us that while details are scarce, they do indeed have a strategy in place regarding Guilty Gear Strive. Contrary to what some might speculate, the game won’t be left without any further updates after season four; there are plans beyond that unannounced moment.
At the moment, I’m unable to reveal our current plans, but let me assure you, something grand and unexpected is being carefully put together. The details are under wraps, so it will be a surprise when unveiled.
Since there’s been a recent announcement of our new fighting game, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, some Guilty Gear Strive enthusiasts may have concerns that the game will be discontinued. However, rest assured, this is not the case, so you can relax about it.
Strive producer wants different games with Guilty Gear IP
Miyauchi remained silent about further details, but shared with us his interest in exploring different game genres through the Guilty Gear brand. Yet, since ArcSys has many ongoing projects at present, Miyauchi can’t predict whether or when this idea might become a reality.
He acknowledged it’s hard to tell what will come next,” he said. “However, a positive thought that crosses my mind is that, given our expertise lies in creating combat games rather than other genres such as action games or role-playing games.
Approximately a year past, we acquired a game development studio named AC Korea, specializing in Role-Playing Games (RPGs). This acquisition has significantly broadened our development landscape, resulting in an influx of professionals from various disciplines joining our team.
At this point, our goal is to blend the two skill sets we possess into new creations to discover their potential. As of now, Arc System Works seems to be undergoing multiple experiments or trials. Once we gain more certainty, we’ll likely move on to larger-scale projects, which I am eagerly anticipating. And as a Guilty Gear Producer, I always look forward to creating games within the Guilty Gear series across various genres.

Presently, supporters find themselves in anticipation of the introduction of character Lucy in the game. Approximately one year has passed since her unveiling at Evo 2024, yet Miyauchi explains that there’s a valid explanation behind this delay.
Here’s why Lucy is taking so long to create
As per the producer’s statement, the Guilty Gear development team often possesses all necessary resources internally, allowing developers to directly approach director Daisuke Ishiwatari with questions and continue their work swiftly. However, in the case of Lucy, the team must liaise with CD Projekt Red initially before proceeding.
He clarified that we need to consult with CD Projekt Red for their agreement. In other words, I’ve been in charge of all the communication and feedback exchange with CDPR, regularly discussing with them and conveying the feedback I receive to the design team.
Earlier, team members would only need to consult with Daisuke for approval. However, now all matters are being directed towards me, requiring interactions with the team. As a result, my workload has significantly increased to avoid becoming a hindrance in the development process.
Apart from that, Miyauchi shared an interesting detail: the developers responsible for creating Lucy also spent time playing Cyberpunk 2077 to capture the essence of being a netrunner in Night City, thereby extending the development period for Lucy.
Lucy’s duties as a netrunner pose difficulties for her team when it comes to adapting her skills for physical, close-combat situations; however, it’s evident that the Guilty Gear team has invested considerable time and dedication into creating the series’ inaugural guest character, whose trailer is set to premiere at Evo 2025.
