As a die-hard cinema enthusiast, I’m not holding my breath for the Guardians of the Galaxy voice actor to reprise their role in Marvel’s upcoming blockbuster crossover event, the Avengers: Doomsday. While Marvel Studios has unveiled nearly 30 characters set to appear in this epic showdown, they’re keeping tight-lipped about any Guardians of the Galaxy members making a comeback for the next Avengers adventure directed by James Gunn.
During discussions about his latest movie release titled “The Floaters“, Seth Green has silenced speculations regarding the reappearance of his Marvel character, Howard the Duck, in “Avengers: Doomsday>”. Given that James Gunn is now overseeing DC Studios instead, it appears uncertain whether Howard The Duck will have a role in the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
During a candid conversation with TopMob, actor Seth Green from Guardians of the Galaxy expressed his doubts about being part of Avengers: Doomsday.
In various productions, Green has lent his voice to the character Howard, as seen in “What If…?”, but when queried about potential discussions for reprising the role in a live-action version, he stated simply, “There’s been no meaningful conversations on that topic.
Not at all, there’s no significant matter to discuss. In truth, I cherish playing this character immensely; it’s one of my most valued privileges. Honestly, you can hardly fathom how meaningful it has been for me to portray the role in as many ways as I have. It’s simply amazing.
Regarding a potential cameo in “Avengers: Doomsday”, Green expressed little faith that it would actually take place, saying, “I don’t have much hope that it will ever come to pass.
I wasn’t aware of it beforehand, as nobody shared any information or prepared me for discussing the topic. Therefore, I don’t believe this event will occur.
2022 saw a hint dropped by a French Disney periodical suggesting that the character of Howard the Duck, originally from Green, might make an appearance in the She-Hulk series streaming on Disney+. However, this did not materialize as planned.
Initially, Howard the Duck made his appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) during the closing credits of the movie “Guardians of the Galaxy“. In these remnants of the Collector’s museum, he was found relaxing leisurely. Later on, he briefly reappeared for a momentary role in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2“, where he was spotted conversing with alien customers on the amusement planet Contraxia.
In the epic final battle of Avengers: Endgame, he made an appearance, walking through a portal along with other heroes, albeit his on-screen presence was brief, just a fleeting moment. More recently, he took on a more substantial role in Marvel’s animated series What If…?, lent voice by Green, where he featured in multiple episodes and even entered into matrimony with Darcy Lewis in an alternate reality.
Could Howard the Duck Return to the MCU?
As a dedicated movie enthusiast, I must admit that Seth Green’s recent remarks to TopMob have left me feeling less optimistic about the possibility of Howard the Duck making a return in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Instead of making a comeback through live-action, it seems more plausible that Howard will reappear in an animated format, potentially as part of the Marvel Zombies cast, given that James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy has concluded and the future for that team is uncertain, leaving no clear setting for Howard to resurface.
Even though it’s confirmed that Chris Pratt will reprise his role as Star-Lord, Dave Bautista has stated he won’t play Drax again unless James Gunn is part of the project, which seems improbable.
As a movie enthusiast, I must admit that old man Howard Stark might just manage to make a stealthy appearance in the background, similar to his fleeting, almost imperceptible role in “Avengers: Endgame.” Remarkably, this could happen without any intervention from Mr. Green at all.
