‘Grown Men’ Were ‘Sobbing’ During ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Camera Tests Because Hugh Jackman Showed Up in Wolverine’s Yellow Suit

As a devoted cinema enthusiast, I have always held a soft spot for iconic superhero costumes that instantly transport us to another world. The recent revelation of Hugh Jackman‘s emotional first wearing of Wolverine’s yellow and blue suit during the production of “Deadpool & Wolverine” brought me immense excitement and nostalgia.

Wendy Jacobson, an executive producer of “Deadpool & Wolverine,” shared with HeyUGuys (as reported by IGN), that adult males were tearfully reacting to Hugh Jackman’s initial camera test wearing the authentic yellow and blue Wolverine suit from the comics. This was a first for Jackman during his 17-year tenure as Wolverine, and the suit has created quite a stir in anticipation of the new Marvel production.

“Jacobson described it as an extraordinary experience. This occurred during the camera test prior to filming. The sight of the two actors in their costumes together left us all in awe. But when Hugh appeared in yellow and blue, adults on set were moved to tears. Clearly, this was going to be something unique and memorable.”

When Jackman talked to EbMaster for an article about Deadpool and Wolverine, he mentioned that during the production of the first X-Men film in 1999, everyone wore black leather costumes. This image became deeply ingrained in his mind, making it difficult for him to imagine Wolverine in any other way on screen.

“As soon as I put [the yellow suit] on, I couldn’t believe I never had before,” he added.

“Ryan Reynolds remarked, ‘I’ve never encountered such a response from a crew before.’ In the initial stages of production, we hardly discussed the suit as it was an obvious choice. Today, portraying this character without the suit is unthinkable.”

Shawn Levy, the director of “Deadpool & Wolverine,” shared that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige suggested Hugh Jackman would need to don the yellow Wolverine suit if he was to reprise his role after 2017’s critically acclaimed “Logan.” Levy eagerly agreed, exclaiming, “Absolutely yes!”

“Kevin Feige pointed out to EbMaster that Hugh Jackman never donned the most famous Wolverine outfit in ten X-Men films. This illustrates how strong the Wolverine character is, as it didn’t require the costume for audiences to connect with him deeply.”

As a film enthusiast, when I discovered that Hugh had joined the project, I shifted gears from professional producer to excited fanboy mode, exclaiming, “You mean I get to work with Hugh now? That calls for the iconic yellow outfit!”

“Deadpool & Wolverine” opens in theaters nationwide July 26 from Disney.
