“Grosse Pointe Garden Society” is on the move.
Starting April 4th, I’ll be tuning into NBC on Friday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT, as they’ve decided to shift the drama series from its current Sunday evening timeslot. “Dateline NBC” will now air in its place on Sundays at 10 p.m. instead.
The decision to shift “Grosse Pointe” to Friday nights might not be favorable for its long-term prospects, as moving shows during the freshman season to Fridays often signals an impending cancellation. Contrary to this trend, NBC has been successful in airing comedies on Friday nights lately, with Reba McEntire’s multi-camera sitcom “Happy’s Place” receiving a renewal for Season 2. The final episode of that series will be broadcast on March 21.
Although “Grosse Pointe” has received generally positive reviews, it hasn’t managed to create a significant stir in TV ratings, according to NBC. The initial episode has seen its rating in the adults aged 18-49 demographic rise to 1.21 and attracted a total of 6.6 million viewers across all platforms since its premiere on Feb. 23.
Based on the latest Nielsen Live+7 statistics, the “Grosse Pointe” episode broadcasted on March 9 initially drew about 1.1 million viewers and a 0.13 rating. However, after a week of playback, the viewership increased to around 1.8 million viewers, with the rating going up to 0.2. It’s important to note that these figures do not account for streaming on Peacock, where the show is available.
At the halfway point of the television season, “Grosse Pointe” was among the three dramatic series NBC planned to debut, alongside “Suits: LA” and “The Hunting Party.
According to the given logline, “Grosse Pointe” is described as portraying the stories of four individuals from a suburban gardening club. Their lives become entangled due to scandals, mischief, and a mysterious secret – an unsolved murder that everyone seems to be keeping quiet about. As the dark secrets beneath their pristine facade start to fester and decay, they strive to maintain their flawless image, just like the flowers that blossom gracefully above ground in their garden.
The show’s cast features Melissa Fumero from “Brooklyn Nine-Nine”, along with Aja Naomi King, Ben Rappaport, AnnaSophia Robb, Matthew Davis, Alexander Hodge, Nancy Travis, and Felix Wolfe. Jenna Bans and Bill Krebs created the series and act as co-showrunners and executive producers. Casey Kyber also serves as an executive producer. The studio behind this production is Universal Television.
