Greenwich Entertainment Buys Sam Riley, Stacy Martin Thriller ‘Islands’ (EXCLUSIVE)

As a cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that I’ve just learned Greenwich Entertainment has secured the North American distribution rights for the gripping film “Islands.” This announcement comes after the movie’s successful premiere at the prestigious Berlin International Film Festival.

This movie was jointly written and helmed by Jan-Ole Gerster, who has worked on “A Coffee in Berlin” and “Lara” previously. It was also penned by Blaz Kutin and Lawrie Dornan. The cast includes Sam Riley (from “Control”), Stacy Martin (“The Brutalist”) and Jack Farthing (“Spencer”). This production earned four notable nominations at the Lola Awards, Germany’s equivalent of the Oscars, in categories like Best Picture, Best Actor, Original Music and Sound.

The movie received praise from critics upon its premiere at the Berlinale, with Peter Debruge of EbMaster’s describing it as “hypnotic,” and several other reviewers commending the acting skills of the main characters, Martin and Riley.

The movie revolves around Tom, a tennis instructor at an upscale island resort, who spends his downtime alternating between tennis lessons and brief romantic encounters. However, the arrival of a puzzling family disrupts Tom’s usual pattern when he becomes involved with Anne (Martin), her husband Dave (Farthing), and their son Anton (Dylan Torrell). Strangely, Tom feels as though he recognizes Anne, and the unease between them escalates until one fateful night when Dave vanishes. Suspicion falls on both Tom and Anne, causing tension to rise among them.

Gerster expressed his heartfelt appreciation towards Greenwich for introducing our movie to North American spectators. He’s thrilled for the audience to witness the exceptional acting by Sam, Stacy, and Jack, as they infuse such richness and complexity onto the screen.

In my latest film critique, I’m delving into the world of “Bonjour Tristesse,” a captivating production recently unveiled by Greenwich Entertainment. This esteemed studio is no stranger to acclaim, having previously brought us the Oscar-winning masterpieces “Free Solo” by Jimmy Chin and Chai Vasarhelyi, as well as the thought-provoking “Close to You,” featuring Elliot Page in a stellar performance. Now, they’ve added another gem to their collection, with “Bonjour Tristesse” showcasing the talents of Lily McInerny, Claes Bang, and Chloë Sevigny.

The movie titled ‘Islands’ was brought to life by Jonas Katzenstein and Maximilian Leo, with Katrin Kreppel serving as an associate producer. They were joined by executive producers Jonathan Saubach, Simon Stein, Klaus Dohle, Adrià Monés, Maud Petit, and Charles Collier. Quirin Berg, Max Wiedemann, Max Conradt, Cosima von Spreti, Marcos Kantis, Martin Lehwald, and Jan-Ole Gerster were co-producers for the project. ‘Islands’ was a collaborative effort between Leonine Studios and Schiwago Film.

The agreement was worked out between Andy Bohn, one of Greenwich’s co-presidents, and Lina Marrone from Protagonist Pictures, who represents the filmmakers. Both Protagonist Pictures and augenschein Sales are in charge of global distribution.
