As a die-hard Community fan who has patiently waited for what feels like an eternity, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and frustration as we inch closer to the release of the much-anticipated movie. Having grown up with this show, it’s been a constant source of comfort, laughter, and intellectual stimulation throughout my life.
Is it not long before the prophecy comes true, considering that Yvette Nicole Brown has confirmed her return as Shirley Bennett in the Community movie, and filming hasn’t started yet? This suggests the movie may be coming our way soon, doesn’t it?
Summer’s (almost) over
March 4, 2024: Attention all residents of Greendale: Prepare for the resumption of classes, tentatively speaking. Joel McHale, leader of the study group, has shared with Deadline that he’s optimistic about the production of the Community movie following last year’s writers and actors strikes. He mentioned that it might start as early as next week, depending on Donald Glover’s schedule. Although McHale hasn’t seen the script, Glover, who plays the character Abed Nadir, has hinted at its content. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter last month, he revealed, “Yeah, [Dan Harmon] told me what he wanted for the script, and I was like, ‘This sounds great.’ It’s a college reunion, but Abed is this big director now, and basically, this is his magnum opus. I’m like, ‘This sounds amazing.'” If Britta remains the main investor, it seems likely that Abed will be shooting his masterpiece in Imax.
Don’t blame Troy
2024-05-10: Quit insisting he’s too swamped! Contrary to popular belief, Donald Glover asserts he’s not avoiding a reunion with his Greendale pals. In an interview with Deadline, he confirmed that the Community movie is indeed in the works (“I swear”), and clarified that his schedule isn’t the cause for delay. “People are giving me flak online for this,” he said, “but not this time.” Regarding a script, Glover hasn’t received one yet, but speculates that creator Dan Harmon might be drafting it. This is intriguing, as Alison Brie mentioned on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live in April that she had read the script, and found it “hilarious.” Care to enlighten the rest of your class, Annie?
Aw, that’s nice!
3rd October, 2024: Let’s kindly invite Ms. Shirley Bennett into the study room, please! Yvette Nicole Brown recently chatted with The Wrap, revealing her role in the upcoming ‘Community’ film – the one that hasn’t started shooting just yet. A deep breath… “The script for Community is hilarious, it’s quite irreverent, and downright silly,” she hinted. “A lot will likely change as Dan Harmon and Andrew Guess, our writers, are always brainstorming and incorporating ideas… They can now adjust Shirley’s character too.” She assures everyone that the cast is still committed to the movie; they’re currently grappling with scheduling challenges once more.
