This year, it seems like I’ll be immersing myself once again in the world of God of War, with rumors swirling about an upcoming installment that delves into Greek mythology – a side-adventure I can hardly wait to embark on!
As reported by Jeff Grubb from Giant Bomb, the upcoming game is an entirely new title rather than a remaster collection. Unlike the Norse mythology in God of War (2018) and Ragnarok, this game will delve into Greek mythology. It’s uncertain what exactly “side-story” means, but it might refer to a medium-sized game that is larger than DLC but not quite a full standalone title. Examples could be Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. Previously, God of War had several Greek-focused prequels such as two PSP games and God of War: Ascension on PS3.
Initially, the God of War series centered around Greek mythology. There was speculation about a remastered collection of God of War games being unveiled to celebrate the franchise’s 20th anniversary, but Sony made it clear that no new game releases were planned at their recent event. However, they did reveal the Dark Odyssey cosmetic DLC for the occasion.
A television series based on the God of War video game is currently being developed for Amazon, with two seasons already commissioned. However, it remains unclear what Sony Santa Monica will create next as their team works on their initial independent intellectual property (IP) since the release of God of War in 2005.
