Great start for the new Dune on Steam. Devs of this open-world survival MMO have big plans and want to be honest with players

Update (June 9th)

Before its worldwide launch, “Dune: Awakening” has been thriving on Steam. Over the weekend, a staggering 117,000 players were simultaneously enjoying this new paid survival game on the platform (according to SteamDB). As a result, anticipation among gamers ahead of the release is running extremely high.

Original news (June 6th)

Next week sees the worldwide launch of Dune: Awakening, yet those who purchased the Deluxe or Ultimate editions got an early start on the excitement yesterday. Therefore, it would be intriguing to check out the current reactions towards this game.

  1. This launch can be considered very successful. Yesterday’s activity record on Steam was 93,634 players playing simultaneously. That’s impressive considering it was achieved only by people willing to pay extra for special editions of the game.
  2. The earlier access became the best debut for Funcom, surpassing the previous leader, Conan Exiles, which had a record of 53,402 players at the same time.
  3. Interestingly, the title was not initially received with enthusiasm. Shortly after the release, most of the reviews on Steam were negative. This was due to problems with connecting to the servers. Fortunately, these were temporary issues, and the devs quickly managed to minimize them, so the reception of the game improved rapidly.
  4. The option to rent private servers is now available. At first, the developers planned to release this feature sometime after the release, but they managed to do it earlier.

From “mostly negative” to very positive reviews in just a few hours

Players seem to highly enjoy “Dune: Awakening”, as indicated by the fact that 81% of the reviews on Steam are positive. This high percentage is considered a “very positive” rating by the platform for this particular game.

On June 10th, not only will the game be officially launched, but additional servers will become active as well. Moreover, the developers assured that they won’t implement microtransactions or subscriptions in the future. Instead, they plan to generate revenue through the sale of the standard game version and classic expansions with fresh content. Lastly, it’s worth noting that the game development process will continue with free updates.

Since March, we’ve been aware that there’s no active subscription. Now, it’s interesting to note that the developer has explicitly stated they don’t have any intentions for implementing any type of microtransaction.

You can buy “Dune: Awakening” on Steam for $49.99 (the standard edition). If you’d prefer the Deluxe Edition, it will cost you $69.99, while the Ultimate Edition is priced at $89.99.
