As a seasoned film enthusiast with a penchant for stories that transcend cultural boundaries and resonate deeply with audiences, I am utterly intrigued by the forthcoming romantic comedy “Asian Persuasion.” The film’s pedigree is nothing short of impressive, boasting a three-time Tony Award and Grammy winner as its director – Jhett Tolentino.
Jhett Tolentino, a three-time winner of both the Tony Awards and Grammys, is debuting as a film director with “Asian Persuasion.” This movie has secured North American distribution and is set to make its sales debut at the upcoming American Film Market.
Based in Hawaii, Scatena & Rosner Films has secured the global distribution rights for a heartwarming romantic comedy. This movie follows the tale of a charming yet unambitious character who devises an extravagant plan to evade paying alimony to his ex-wife, a successful fashion executive.
Scatena & Rosner Films plans to debut their movie within the North American or home market by Spring 2025. They have set this release date, and will start granting rights for distribution in all other regions starting from next week’s AFM event in Las Vegas (November 5-10).
The movie was penned by Mike Ang. It features a star-studded cast, including Dante Basco (from “Hook”), KC Concepcion (“Boy Golden: Shoot to Kill”), Kevin Kreider (“Bling Empire”), and Paolo Montalban (“Cinderella”).
Under the banner of Jhett Tolentino Productions, the film titled “Asian Persuasion” is being made. Jhett Tolentino and screenwriter Ang are the producers for this project. The cinematography is handled by Andrea Walter, who has previously worked on “The Fabulous Filipino Brothers” and “Empty by Design”. Sheena Alexis from Dedalus Moving Pictures takes care of production design as well as costume design for the film. The music score is composed by Eunike Tanzil, known for her work in “Be Somebody”, while the casting is done by Bess Fifer.
Todd Tolentino has been involved in 19 stage plays on Broadway as well as off-Broadway, such as “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike,” starring Sigourney Weaver, and “A Raisin in the Sun” with Denzel Washington. In terms of music production, he supervised the recording of the cast album for “The Color Purple,” which featured Cynthia Erivo, Jennifer Hudson, and Danielle Brooks. As a film producer, his credits include “Life Is What You Make It” from 2017 and Isabel Sandoval’s “Lingua Franca,” which debuted at the 2019 Venice Film Festival.
Zach Stampone, Vice President of Distribution at Scatena & Rosner Films, expressed his excitement about introducing ‘Asian Persuasion’ to global audiences. He mentioned that the movie’s witty, relatable storyline, along with its immensely talented cast and crew hailing from 21 Asian countries, sets it apart as a remarkable romantic comedy for 2025 and beyond. The director Tolentino’s skill in crafting authentic narratives that connect with viewers has us eager to broadcast this film far and wide,” said Stampone.
Scatena & Rosner Films is a company specializing in producing, financing, distributing, selling, and arranging product placements in films, led by Gato Scatena and Jordan Rosner. Among the movies they’ve sold are “Fight for Your Life,” directed by Luke Sparke, and “I’m Charlie Walker,” helmed by Patrick Gilles.
