Google Teams Up with Range Media for Groundbreaking AI Short Films: What to Expect!

Google and Range Media Partners are teaming up to initiate “AI On Screen,” a project funding short movies from various filmmakers and diverse perspectives, exploring the intricate bond between mankind and artificial intelligence.

Companies seek narratives that strike a profound chord of empathy in their listeners, particularly appealing to thoughtful, future-oriented audiences. These stories delve into the complex emotional and moral quandaries that emerge as people and advanced machines become more interconnected.

Over the next 18 months, these two firms are planning to create, fund, and produce a series of short films. Their aim is to select two of these for expansion into full-length feature adaptations. Google and Range claim they have constructed an all-encompassing system designed to support filmmakers during a period when AI’s role is under much debate and diverse perspectives are essential.

Peter Micelli, head of Range, expressed, “In the continuously evolving world of Hollywood, there’s no better ally than Google to assist filmmakers and other talented creators in realizing their most profound storytelling aspirations. We are thrilled to initiate this short film program as an initial move to establish a remarkable channel for future blockbuster productions.”

Peter Micelli, CEO of Range, stated, “In the ever-changing Hollywood scene, Google is our ideal collaborator to help filmmakers and top-tier creators bring their most ambitious storytelling ideas to life. We are eager to begin this short film program as a stepping stone towards creating an exceptional pathway for future blockbuster films.

As a movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that Google’s latest initiative, “AI on Screen,” marks a substantial stride in our continued dedication to foster creative expression and delve into the potential of technology through the art of storytelling. With AI transitioning from a realm of fiction into our daily routines, narrative films offer a unique platform to investigate and exhibit how we can harmoniously interact with this technology.

For the last year and a half, Range has made significant strides in their film production, contributing to projects like “A Complete Unknown” and “Longlegs.

The initial movies that have been unveiled are titled “Sweetwater” and “Lucid.” Penned by Sean Douglas, the movie “Sweetwater” delves into the life of the son of a deceased celebrity. Upon revisiting his childhood home, he stumbles upon a fan letter that hints at an astonishing AI, compelling him to confront and deal with his mother’s enduring legacy.

The movie “Lucid” is penned and helmed by Sammi Cohen, known for “You Are So Not Invited to My Bar Mitzvah”. This film revolves around a pair yearning to break free from their oppressive existence, who venture everything on an innovative device capable of sharing dreams.

Rachel Douglas, Partner and Manager at Range, manages the partnership with Google and oversees all productions for the “AI on Screen” film program. Range has requested that proposals be forwarded through a representative or legal counsel.

Sean Douglas is managed by Range Media Partners, while Sammi Cohen is handled by UTA and also Range Media Partners.
