Google is leveraging YouTube videos for the training of its Veo 3 AI system, a practice that, as reported by CNBC, doesn’t allow content creators to decline the inclusion of their uploaded videos.
In May 2025, Google unveiled its latest AI-powered video creation model called Veo 3. Since then, it’s been creating quite a buzz on social media due to its increasing realism.
It’s been a topic of curiosity for many: How do they keep making it so impressive? CNBC suggests that the secret lies in Google leveraging YouTube videos for training their Artificial Intelligence model.
Creators cant opt-out from training
I’m thrilled to share that not only am I witnessing Google leveraging YouTube videos for training its Veo 3 audio and video generator, but these uploads are also playing a significant role in the development of its ChatGPT rival, Gemini. It’s fascinating to see the potential these platforms hold!
Google confirmed the news to CNBC, but says it doesn’t use every video available on the platform.
The company’s representative stated that we have consistently relied on videos from YouTube to enhance our products, and this practice remains unaltered even in the era of Artificial Intelligence.
Additionally, we understand the importance of boundaries. That’s why we have put significant resources into strong safeguards, ensuring creators can defend their visual identity in the age of AI. This is a commitment we are determined to uphold.
YouTube announced in September that user-generated content could potentially enhance the platform’s user experience via machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques. Yet, creators have no option to disable this feature.
Last December, the company rolled out a significant overhaul on the way videos are employed for AI learning, particularly with regards to third-party game models, and here I am, diving into this new gaming experience!
Via the dashboard interface, content creators have the freedom to decide if they allow companies to extract their videos, and they can also selectively choose which ones to share with specific entities. Notably absent from this list is Google’s Gemini, as it operates as an internal platform, making its inclusion incompatible with the selection process.
